It's just as true that you can put up a bunch of designers and show their similarities from week to week, and of favored designers. But you wont see that pointed out due to personal agendas around here.

And I do think that this design is stretching on the theme, so don't try arguing I'm defend Ramyb. You would fail... again.

If I fail, prove it. Show me one artist with a lineup of shirts using similar style, design elements, placement and execution. If there are so many out there this should be a trivial task. If you can't I'll just assume you're talking out of a personal vendetta against me and stretching things to fit your argument which makes an opinion pretty useless.

The Futurama Santa looks nothing like this one. I'd say you are more on point that it's inspiration from a song is not very strong.

Either one works. I don't know the exact source but I do know that it is not original and further has nothing to do with the song.

I wanted to try to do something evoking cmdixon's masterly use of halftones. Whenever I hear this song I get mental images of a perfectly still, cloudless winter night, with a gently moving aurora borealis.

Cmdixon, if you feel like I'm aping you, just say the word and I'll pull the entry.

I have an idea, but I'm not much of an artist.

I have a little dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I will play

So, I'm picturing a wistful-looking clay dreidel looking out the window and waiting for the rain to stop (playing with the antecedent for "it's").

Can I offer the idea to anybody willing and capable of drawing it?

You should have spent your time doing a great entry for this derby instead of causing yet more ruckus with the 4th Graders.

Parrotworks consistently submits multiple designs per derby... 2 so far this week, 3 last week, a grand total of 9 for propaganda, even if the majority of them got rejected... four in flight... the list goes on.

The idea that he spent any more time on this than he normally spends on a derby entry is hilarious. I would not be surprised to see at least one or two more within the next few days.

Cool idea, however, I don't believe Woot allows specialty inks in Derby designs. (unless I've missed an announcement or something to the contrary)

Yeah, woot doesn't allow the use of special inks like glow or metallic in derby entries.

I always wonder how many votes you guys are actually giving seki/ramy by arguing so much in their shirt thread. Woot obviously doesn't care that you don't appreciate what they make. I'd shut up about it and find a better way to make your point bc honestly i think the arguments just give them more votes.

Read the sentence in which the fail statement was made. It was not associated with the rest. So you have failed already.

How is saying other people have similar styles stretching something to fit a personal vendetta? Comprehend that a little bit more and it's more than obvious it has nothing to do with a personal vendetta. Or are you the only one who has your opinion? If not, don't be so conceited, not everything is about you. That's like me saying you bash X designer and I think you are targeting that towards me. Uh, no.

Every designer has similar styles, some more than others, but if it aint broke for them, why are they going to fix it? Should Jackson Pollock have painted something other than what he did? (not comparing the artists here). It's a style that you personally do not like, but if many do, and keep voting for it, then why in the world would Ramyb change it? Purely logically speaking here. Again, if it aint broke don't fix it. He didn't just submit one design in this derby, so he did one with something that wasn't' broke and tried another style in another. Nothing wrong with that.

And for me to point out the similarities would be pointless because you would just disagree and stretch things to prove your point as you always do. It's obvious you have a very strong bias against two specific designers, I would respect your opinion more if you had consistency across the board instead of such a narrow target. THAT is your personal vendetta.

On a side note, how much clip art was used to make this? There's elements that look like they were drawn in MSPaint and nothing stylistically fits with anything else. It's like all the elements were copied and pasted together.

The second time I agree with you in one derby, lighting does strike twice in the same place sometimes I guess.

There's nothing really to get. There's no joke just disrespect. Not that there's much of a maturity level being shown here in the discussions rather than bating each other and disrespecting other people's work. And if that's what you consider the joke, it's not a very good one.

mikenytola wrote:First off, I think this design should be rejected due to the similarities already pointed out.

That said, you really really try hard and go out of your way to attack very specific people. There is a ton of licensed merchandise for many Christmas songs, are you going to go to put this effort to point it out for all of the other designs to? Don't be so transparent with your agenda here. Stick to valid points that are obvious such as how it looks just like the illustration.

That is my point and it is obvious which is why I pointed it out.

You're more than welcome to go after the "ton of licensed merchandise" out there but I'm not sure how you get licensed merchandise for anything in the fog since none of the songs were written later than 1950's. I don't think t-shirts were big back then. If there is licensed merchandise I couldn't find it, but please let me know the results of your searches.

The one I did expect to find was the silent knight but I actually wasn't able to find anything resembling it. If all of this stuff is out there, please go ahead and post it. I don't want to see anyone win by breaking the rules, but if you are just assuming that such things exist and that I only cared to go after seki you are sorely mistaken.

I will give that it is a pattern that this stuff piles on ramy and seki, but for once take some time to think and realize that it's because they do it repeatedly. I am very happy to say that most derby artists have integrity and don't just try to copy existing designs and if they do, they are doing a damn good job because I can't find any evidence of it.

Not really offense but disappointment in the reality that people always feel the need to trash one another in one way, shape or form because there is NO originality anywhere ever. There is nothing under the sun that has not been done, so man must tear one another apart for amusement.

also, try not to make a fool of yourself by loudly proclaiming ignorant things. we seem to attract those types lately

Agreed, i think every art teacher I've had told me that. I think you're directing your anger in the wrong direction i think the entry was a joke with no real harm meant. The comments may be a different story. I think the two sides are just getting really sick of each other. Woot used to be so different; with unexpected entries and uniqueness but this was bound to happen, to get celebrities with huge followings pushing everyone else no matter the quality of work out of their way. Not complaining just stating.
