I'm not sure what you mean by that. The lighting can be done in a realistic way here. The problem that I have with it, is the shadows don't really follow form, they pretty much just mimic the outline. Take the head of the dead bear, imagine it as a sphere, and it's a pretty poorly modeled sphere.

Re: Gorgon Love

I really like the idea and the art is great as well, but it's too subtle for me. As someone else mentioned, it just looks like hair unless you're really inspecting. Still, major props for the great concept! If it doesn't print here, consider making the snakes a little more obvious - and be sure to let me know so I can vote for the revised edition.

FWIW, that shirt wasn't printed here on Woot. It came in third in the Derbylympics, but only first place winners (in three events) were printed. However, I think riffmaster printed it himself somewhere else.

Mancho wrote:"Flaming cauliflower" Nice. Interesting way to put it. I haven't quite made up my mind yet whether I like that style of explosion. Bassanimation has a point; that's kind of what explosions do. Are there any "better" techniques?

If you Google explosions, they kind of all look very similar. They do sort of resemble firey Hell-broccolis. It takes a bit of practice to do this type of stuff. Xtreme Park was my first try at it, so admittedly there was room for much improvement. I think PPens did a better job than Xtreme Park . Looks radical! I can't wait to buy it so mah bear shirt can have an explody pal.

For some reason I thought it was a picture of a rose growing out of a pile of dookie. Perhaps because I'm potty training a 2 year old.

Exactly! That is precisely what started going through my head about halfway into this design

cute bunny = derby entry
angry boy = the critics
sympathetic monster = woot community

I see how the cute animal with a hammer is similar in general concept, but there's no forrest I see. It almost looks like a magician in the background? I see two cute things with large hammers about to beat something, but other than that the two are very different. Recent derby winners have been far closer in concept and execution to existing shirts than I see here. Just my opinion though. It'll be up to Woot.

I appreciate all the constructive criticism, but a lot were things I considered when doing the design and then made decisions about.

You're not going to get any better as an artist if you just disregard criticism like this :/

I mean some of it could be chalked up to your artistic sensibilities, but a lot of these ideas would really improve your piece. Really simple things like making the turtle look like it's walking, or moving the smoke so it's drifting behind the gun, would make an incredible difference.

Remember that people aren't attacking you or your art (well, some of them are), they're trying to help you out. They're the ones buying the shirt after all :P You should resubmit this piece after taking some of their critiques into account!

What is the problem with the tomato being there? There is always the one white guy in a black gang. You always have to watch out for that guy though, because you have no idea what he had done to get himself respect from his group.

Wow. This is amazing, and it's a crime it's not getting more votes. Is the shirt creme colored? I don't remember seeing creme before on shirt.woot but I also have a bad memory.

(The shirt color fits the design perfectly by the way.. and I'm gonna buy it if it's chosen)

I like the expressionless face, it makes the excessive/unexpected force very nonchalant and innocent.

The placement of the turtle in front of the hare is odd though.. I almost would rather have just the turtle, though that may obscure the concept.

I know it's spelled "El Chupacabra" all over Google Search, but I'm a native spanish speaker and "El" doesn't sit well with me.

"El" is masculine, but since "Chupacabra" ends with an 'a', it is feminine. Thus, it would be preceded by a "La".

I'd love to see the tortoise behind the hare but with the hare laying dead feet/inches before the finish line. I think you could add a checkered finish line and make it work. My suggestion for the change would fix the smoke issues and motion issues without making you redraw the main 2 components. I like the expressionless tortoise (I too see a hardened killer). You'd get my vote if you fixed those issues.
