Okay. I hope you like it. Please leave nice notes, and comments or suggestions. I won't have time to re-draw for the derby. But, I could learn a thing or two, no doubt! I'd appreciate you all sharing your infinite wisdoms.

Excellent use of color in the design. I'm definitely liking this brown better than asphalt.

Heh I'm glad. I wanted to it to be just verging on the unsettling side...as avhienda said in the pre-derby thread - like they are staring into your soul!;)

Nice job. I saw this sometime yesterday, when you only had the owl in the jar. I liked it then, and I like it now. The additional elements are wonderful. gl

What, you mean you wanted to be ChaosTheory?

Really Riff, it's just like the same thing we see time after time from CT. And I don't find it impressive. In fact, I thought it was his own entry (modifying his dinosaur daily he had printed.)

Your shirts are almost always my favorites. They are always sweet and simple and very wearable. I really hope you print one of these days. I love these creepy window birds =)

mrwednesday wrote:No I get that, but the commercial has been used pretty consistently since then and may still air. Partially the problem is that the art seems too close to the originals and I don't know if just adding a gun is enough

There is a shirt that has the owl on it asking how many licks does it take. The owl is licking the tootsie pop. The shirt sells at wal-mart. Not saying that it is the same, just saying the character is still in use. So mrwednesday may have a point.

On another note. I laughed my ass off and I think this is great.

I remember seeing a kid in grade school wearing the Gary Larson version of this on a tee shirt. I only remember because I was very much into the Far Side at the time, and remember wanting the shirt.

loveengrey wrote:You stayed right on topic with this shirt, but I think thats why I like it. It doesn't need any silly puns or comical aspects to make it work. Its just a great design. I like how you've got the bird perched on the flowers also. And wow I just looked the bird up on google images, and you did a fantastic job representing it, from the beak to the colors. You're lucky for having a job that lets you see birds like that

I only get to go out every 2 or so years, and yes, I'm blessed to have seen some of them up close. It's a shame that many of them are endangered and clinging to existence.

Here's a good site for songs and pics of them.

I prefer the navy over the red.

I don't think the distressing is necessary if you're just doing a speech bubble. It works well as an old book cover, but it just kind of muddles it up otherwise.

If you're insistent on the distressing, I would seek out a less severe texture.

Well... I'm not insistent on distressing, but I don't like the idea of a big circle of solid ink where the speech bubble is, that's why I put so much distressing there. Hmmm....what to do...

Yep, I see it on TV every now and then. While I'd like to say that this is protected under parody, the characters are sooooo close to the characters from the commercial. I guess, legally, it boils down to whether the characters are trademarked and how protective the owners are of that trademark. In the end, it'll boil down to whether Woot wants to take that risk.

Re: Giiiiizzzaaaaards

This looks great! I like it without the stuffing/gizzards or whatever it was. Though I still don't know how if I like the baster weapon. I think an electric carving knife might have been better. I just don't see that chicken making it with a baster.
