Jeebus, Adder, she also went nuts for the other Star Rats entry, the one that had nothing to do with anyone else's IP. Maybe she just has a blindspot for designs with rats in them--that seemed to be the part in both designs she latched onto anyway, the inclusion of rats. You seem to have a way of taking people you don't like and finding anything you can possibly use to pick apart at their integrity/morality.

It decreases the civility of the forums. Given your "whether woot wants me to say say or not" comment, I can only imagine previous posts by you on the subject were deleted and that the forum mods had more or less the same reaction to your post as I did.

Haha, I love the look on 'Pa cat' there. I was wondering if someone would do this palindrome and I'm glad to see it rendered so hilariously. Love it.

I really like this and the Star Rats that keeps popping in and out of the fog. I have a weakness for rats shirts and I'd like both of these to print at some point.

The rats in this one do look a bit more mouse like, maybe try making them a bit taller next time? That could help, and the tail on the Vader rat is a bit short, I don't know if it's supposed to be, I did have a rat once that was born with a tail half of normal length, I've also seen a rat a with broken tail. The white rat's arm holding the lightsaber looks really weird too.

Well done! It's a wearable, on theme shirt that doesn't rely on the title to make sense as a shirt. Great "timing" to the story, as well.

Ah, you're right. OBVIOUSLY the fact that she'll blindly vote for anything with a rat on it supercedes the railing on videogames and intellectual property that she made when otherwise talented individuals were winning with them. It's solely a coincidence that she'd pick this piece, in all its total genericness, to support so soon after that.

The difference you're forgetting is that Star Rats is actually designed well and, despite being "cute", is a risk because only ramy cute ever truly wins here, and because it's not backed up by the most ludicrously overdone and yet still mindlessly popular reference EVER.

I'm not "forgetting" anything. I'm just saying people have a blind spot sometimes when they're voting--it's one of the big problems with this whole pure democracy thing in the first place, as you well know. For example, myself, I know if a design has a weakness/love of mine (oh, I don't know, let's say pizza) I have to force myself to think about the quality of the design and any potential weaknesses before I automatically think "Our Movie Genre, awesome!"

She referenced a fb group about rats. Obviously, she _really_ likes rats, so yes I can see how it could supercede the IP issue you mentioned.

The criticism you referenced in your post--bassanimation critiquing talented designers--was extremely, EXTREMELY mild criticism. Along the lines of "I can see how other people would like this, but it's not for me." It was absolutely nothing like, say, the criticism you employ against people you dislike, which is generally quite mean-spirited. If I missed harsher criticism on her part, please link me and I'll consider changing my mind.

When you rag on someone like ramy or seki, I generally just let it go in all but the most egregious instances since they're woot heavies--they've generated many thousands of dollars in sales between them--and there's quite a few of my own issues I have with them, but bassanimation? It's like stomping on a bunny, dude, it's just overkill (I know, I know, insert joke about anime bunnies here).

Ramy, apologies for the complete derailment of your shirt thread (although, hey, I'm sure you're probably kind of used to it by now ).

haha, ya, never fails that you notice things once you post. ;)

Well first of all your comp shirt is 580 x 500 instead of 580 x 580 (that's why it's stretching).

Don't worry. If you dig back to my first stuff you'll see that things have gotten better. Only reason for that is time, experience and determination (cheesy I know) ;) I really do like the geometric type shading on the log, keep that up.

~Cheers

:D thanks! its always nice to hear encouragement when you're trying something new
ill have to keep a better eye on the image sizes next time though lol

That, I feel, goes a bit further than simply appreciating a single piece out of a number of others. We're talking a generic design with an overused IP trope. It's not witty or interesting, it's certainly not new or yet-to-be-done, and you have given no reason to be OK with this particular example other than "Our Movie Genre I LIKE RATS". If you're going to automatically backtrack on your stated beliefs as soon as Ramy puts something out to coo over, you should man up and have an intelligent, educated reason as to why this piece breaks the mold of "preferring originality".

Do you really only enjoy one type of art? I enjoy all kinds of things, for different reasons.

In any given week here, I see at least 10 things that I love, all of different styles. Just because I squee over one and not another doesn't mean one gets my vote and one doesn't. It just means one of them made me titter like a girl and one made me stop in awe of the craftsmanship. Different reactions for things that appeal to me in different ways.

I'm also not a huge Star Wars fan, but I can't deny it's one of the biggest pop culture mainstays on the planet. We're born with it in our DNA at this point.. Also, since I love rodenty things, it's like two huge icons (for me) put together in a very cute way I had this same idea, but I didn't do it for many reasons (some of which are clearly displayed in this thread). Do I think this is high art? No, not really. But do I think it's an adorable tshirt with light saber ratties on it? Sure :D

I can apprciate fine art, and not so fine art. Just like fine food, and a candy bar. One is substantial and nutritious, one is a sweet guilty pleasure. I enjoy both, and a lot of things in between.
