Re: Cupid's Arrow

That's a really well drawn body.
Are there really only 6 colors in there? If so, I'm impressed.
How did it look on a different color?

I actually thought it was an ass with a non-species-specific head attached.
If you can say "penis", I can say "ass", right?

I think it's amusing, nice illo...but more an octopus than a squid. Sorry. Squid heads and tentacles are quite different from what's shown. Still voting, but the naming bugs me.

Maybe have it bonk itself in the head with the numchuks? That's what I would end up doing.

And is it that Richard Simmons' hair that I spot? ;-)

spidergirl42 wrote:I wanted to do something a little different for this contest, and I don't know why, but I thought of the movie Edward Scissorhands, when the inventor holds up the heart-shaped sugar cookie to the salad cutter, and voila! Love is born.

This shirt is the cookie imposed where Edward's heard would go, as well as the belts he always wore around his torso.

That's very clever. I didn't get it at first. I'm glad you commented and explained it.

Do you print your shirts anywhere else, btw? Or put your monsters in kid's books? Cuz they are fabulous.

Thank you.
I got extra color by using a checkerboard cross-hatch technique.
The grey pants/tights are a black and sky-blue hatch.
Shading on the torso is brown and "flesh" hatch.
Lips are red and "flesh", which gives them a more manly look.
So the colors are
1 yellow
2 white
3 brown
4 red
5 black
6 "flesh"
on a baby blue background.
I didn't try any other background colors. I wanted a blue sky. I could have tried the royal blue, but the whole image was taking too long and the baby blue looked good, especially in the eyes and wing shadows.
(I'd wanted the pants/tights to be black, but it was frankly easier to draw contour marks where there would be shadows than where there would be highlights, so I decided to "half-tone" them and they came out a nice gray color.)

I like the charcoal. I think the green would have overpowered the graphic, even though green and red are complementary.

niccamarie wrote:Question for experienced derby artists: I'm realizing now that I see this up that I should have made the thumbnail zoomed in so you can see the notes. Is it possible to resubmit just the thumbnail file?

I like your concept. You're right, this needs close-up. I think you have to resubmit the dang thing, not for absolute positive on that. Or you could put a big image on photobucket or some other place on the web and link it from here in your comments.

Read through the "community" section, upper right of your page. Check out the topic heads, snoop around. There's a pretty good amount of useful info there, if you're willing to pull through the weeds.

Thanks, I did intend it to have a pixel art effect too. One thing I did not intend, but is a nice effect anyway is the slightly embossed look from far away.

Re: They Beat the Same

regardless of copyright issues, I like the idea of the shirt, my complaints are more superficial, as I thought the grinch's heart grew two sizes too BIG that Christmas morning when he saw all the Who's in Whosville singing.

and it's on heather grey, and I don't like heather grey. I don't even mind the reference to Link, that was very tastefully done.
