I think this is great, the design lends itself well to being on a shirt (which can be the hard part sometimes of creating it). GMV.

Molbert wrote:I love the image, but I love dark teeshirts. If it was on dark brown i think it'd be perfect!

Hi Molbert,

Thank you for your comment! I totally understand how you feel -- I'm one of those people who always has to wear dark clothes. In fact, when I first had this design idea, I was determined to put it on a cranberry or brown shirt. But, once I'd finished drawing it, I felt like the design *needed* to be on light blue. I think... it's because of the orange tones in the coffee. Blue really makes them pop! And because brown is so similar to the coffee colors, I think the image would've come across as being a bit dull. Maybe that's just me. I wanted something refreshing, airy and, dare I say, whimsical! So blue just struck me as being the best choice.

I look at it this way: Because the design is relatively small and towards the top of the shirt, I could wear it under a blazer or a button-up/zip-up sweater/sweatshirt/jacket in a darker color. That way I'm still mostly in darker clothing, but I still have a nice splash of light blue to offset the design. :D

Thanks again for the feedback!

Mr. Wednesday is correct. On the entry form, there are several shirt templates that you can use to show how this will be placed on the shirt and how large.

Is there something I'm missing here? I'm seeing people really getting the foamy teeth about people's designs being 1. "bad" and 2. "inaccurate"...

My designs haven't garnered tons of votes so I'm probably in no real position to talk, but I have to say I kinda don't get it. If something is cute or cool and looks OK on a shirt, I'm surprised anybody would nitpick on accuracy... hell, humans aren't yellow with 8 fingers but The Simpsons has been going gangbusters for ages.

To that point, I like the drumming shirt - I was going to do a similar design, but I hadn't thought of the EKG in the background; I thought it was a genius move. I cannot and will not comment on its originality because I haven't seen the "original" shirt you guys are talking about. Wait, I'll say one thing: it's hard to imagine more than the one way to do a wave like that; I'd probably have done the same look myself and, again, haven't seen the grim reaper shirt mentioned.

Anyways, the comments about bad design seem just counterproductive. For example, I think the tiger/lantern design is OK - maybe not ZOMGAWESOMESAUCE to me personally, but I don't see how people are spitting such venom at it either. Cutesy and cartoony are big draws, it seems, n'est ce pas?

Soooo yeah. I'm just surprised reading things like this. I see a lot of people in these derbies whose designs are awesome and I can only hope to be like (in artistic merit).

Cheers
Dave

I've been rooting for your designs ever since the Grinch song spin-off over the holidays, prior to which I'd never heard of you. :O

This one is no different. I quite enjoy it. It uses the theme without stripping away masculinity - a pitfall that even Drakxxx suffered from this week.

And as we all know... I'm nothing if not macho.

Art that makes a person think about the way they really feel about the people they love and have loved is complex and the fact that your design makes people do that is great, straightforward and to the point.(your artwork is.now I sound like Yoda.)

Whoa man, your busy as hell this week!

The character design here is awesome as all anything. When I first saw it, it reminded me of an enemy monster from the video game "Bullet Witch", even though the monster's head is it's huge brain. I know all of 10 people actually played that game, so chances are you've never seen it.

Very cool character, and kickass illustration as always sir.

That does present a paradox. you realize? Or at the very least sounds funny. The rest of your post was very intriguing as well, though I must say I'd side with the artists om this one. Despite it being difficult to claim love or hate for someone you've never met on the basis that it would be baseless, clearly it's possibly to humanize them, through ideas we already have about people, and the little we know about these people (their t-shirt submissions, etc.). So why hate? Which isn't to say it's wrong. If this contest means that much to you, and these shirts seem like a violation of Woot's sanctity and rules generally (a valid concern), by all means, hate. Personally, I think it's a pretty cute anthropomorphized tiger.

sadly, the 'om' or 'ohm' has been denoted as text in the past. It may not be hit by the rejectionator (since it's so late in the week) but you should understand that late in the game, or not, 'No Text' means just that: no text.

Yeah, it's been a few years. I remember the pigs in Windwaker, but for some reason omitted the chickens from Ocarina. I always left the chickens alone though, except in Fable.

As you noticed Jasneko and I collaborated on an idea that we didn't get submitted until minutes after your... (it's okay though, great minds think alike, right?)

But we had the same issue. We were going to put it on the grass green. But realized a lot of people might not look good in in (i.e. me, a light skinned fairly light auburn hair chick.) And of course we knew that brown wasn't going to be the best, and the royal blue was too popular of a shirt. I LOVE the cranberry shirt, just didn't think it was going to "fit." So we went with the olive. But our coffee has a bit more red in it.

I still am trying to decide how the baby blue would look on me, I have never tried to wear it.
