cat thing wrote:Maybe you should try threadless? The style reminds me a little of this shirt: http://www.threadless.com/product/606/We_re_on_the_same_level . Threadless seems to print a bunch of simple but cute and sweet shirts like that...

Funny, I guess I don't look at threadless much, because I had the idea the shirts are more detailed than your exampled - I guess it's a mix! I wonder if it's harder for a simpler design to succeed on threadless? Hmmm well thank you for your suggestion and example cat thing!

grrlmarvel wrote:http://www.teetonic.com/ ... is a good one with a more cartoon bent to it. Design by Humans and Threadless sometimes gets a bit more abstract, but the nice thing about this piece is it works in a lot of areas. Good luck!!! I'm pulling for you!

Interesting, I've never even heard of teetonic before, are many wooters there?
Do you really think this could work with DBH? (I would have had the same hesitation for threadless, but the above poster showed an example that fits... though I still wonder if simple designs have a harder time there). Thanks grrlmarvel, for the suggestions and the support!!

I personally like this shirt. I think its funny, but when my friend saw it, she was horrified. I think this killed the image of Wizard of Oz for her, lol. I'm still planning on buying it, though.

And as for the tree. I didn't really see anything wrong with it until someone else mentioned the whole "Steam coming from her head" thing, but I think it was done well. New to Woot, but I'd like to see more from this artist, especially in regards to reimagining of classics.

kender42 wrote:I like it, but would have liked to seen his heart meter empty...as in a dead Link. If he isn't dead at least half a heart left.

I like the heart meter, but think it needs to be placed somewhere else. I was thinking at the top right, but don't think that will work either. The heart meter is great, if you could use text you could really flesh out the game feel to it.

Either way I would want one.

I see the heart meter as belonging to the chickens more than Link. It is holding up a heart how Link would when he completes a heart container. I assume the heath bar is there because it refills when the one is added too. I like its placement for that reason. Plus the title makes me think it features the chickens over Link.

It is a great shirt though.

They've had their fill of the same old tired, rehashed, chibi-ness and are starting to pay attention to more artistic designs. I know that there are two fogged entries right now (the penguins and ramy's) that fall in that category, but I don't see either of them placing as they were late-comers to the fog and there are some solid designs ahead of them, namely drakxxx's, tjost's and patrickspens'...or this could all be wishful thinking on my part

I second that notion. I have personally had my fill of the rehash of the same design with just a different background. Also, I HATE CATS! Just knock it off, you must be mocking us!

I'd like to know the rules for next time!

You can no longer submit entries after Wednesday at noon. You can no longer vote after Thursday at noon. The 1st winner for the derby is shown that night. Lotsa stuff to remember

this. I'm so confused. I read this post this morning, and it made me scroll back up to look at the wings, which I thought were both on the right side of its body. But I'm looking at it again a few hours later now, and the wing position looks different from what I remember. Am I going crazy? Or did it look different before?

Edit: Oh no, wait, I see what I did... this morning I must have completely overlooked the little tip of the back wing that's visible over the tiger's head. And I was looking at the front wing and seeing two wings close together rather than one wing with two layers. I'm too exhausted to do anything involving actual thought process today.

Thx, sokowa! So, if next time I want to re-submit an entry, do I just submit my modified design? Is that all there is to it? Do I have to notify anyone that it's a re-submission?

if you resub within 24 hrs of your initial submission you have an option to remove it completely (there's a little "X" on the right side of your image I believe. After 24 hrs people usually just sub a second version with the words "RESUB or V.2" (for version 2)

Be aware though that this could potentially split your votes.

sasham62 wrote:Total Eclipse: Again, beautiful and I love the song.

Then there are shirts that are beautiful/well done but I wouldn't wear as a shirt:
Halftone Heartrise
Helical Hearts
Cross my Heart
Heart of the Cards
The Heart Of The Matter
Two Birds and a Heart
Grow a Heart
The King and Queen of Hearts and Shot Through The Heart
Heartgyle
Fallen Hearts
Paisley Heart
Heart Spiral
Long Live The Queen
Lacy Heart
The Hart of Hearts

Then there are shirts that I would buy with one "minor" change:
The heart always wins: I would prefer the cards to be white. That's my preference.
Lion Hearted (Resub): The eyes look sad. I'd like happy eyes. That's my preference.

There are some that I just don't get (which I won't list) and there are some where I just rebel against a design where the designer has nothing to say about it.

Okay, I don't get Heart of Iron. I really like it, and I see that it's over the heart, but it doesn't say "heart" to me.

To anyone I didn't list: That I don't like a particular shirt doesn't mean it's bad.

Thanks Sasham62 for the Lion Hearted comment I liked the emotion conveyed with the eyes but I see what your saying, I'll rework it for the future here or elswhere.

Your lines look great Bass. The largest I use is a 10pt. round brush at 300 dpi, and woot has always printed my lines sharp and clean.

What I'm curious about is do you really hate ALL the designs this week or just the theme so much that everyone's is bad by virtue. You mentioned the bookshelf one, and I like that one too but it kinda had to be in a heart. What would you like to have seen, do you have an idea, no one can steal it now because the deadline has passed for subs. Let us know, I'm sure we're all interested.

HujoeBigs wrote:Sakleehop, Fair enough and this wasn't a personal attack on you. Im just tried of all this copyright stuff. If Woot has a problem with it, they will take it off. But seeing as they havent they seem to not mind it at all. Personally I preffer good use of parody, and the thing is it sells. I just dont like when it blantly trying to use just a character to sell a shirt and not try to get some humor in behind it. That is all.

Hello HujoeBigs - no problem: no harm, no foul and no offense taken. I can understand your disdain for copyright issues - especially since there always seems to be at least one design per derby that crosses that particular line. My comment raising the issue was neither an attack on nor criticism of the design - merely concern that it might be a problem. But of course, Woot always has the last word on whether a design survives scrutiny - it is after all, their (legal) neck on the line. Clearly, they don't see a problem with They Beat The Same and it's a resounding hit with the voters.

Parody is extremely difficult to pull off well and there aren't many who are very adept at doing so. But when done effectively, it's hard to beat:
I loved "The Binge" - it was the perfect parody!

Perhaps we'll chat again some time.
