Re: Lion Hearted (resub)

Thankyou so much TJost for the uplifting message I just found. My husband is wearing your Binge shirt right now! (When that shirt arrived we all just laid it out and admired its gloriousness, the look of the ink, the quality of the shirt, how your artwork printed, just everything. We hope you do make it to Barbados on the earnings!)

I0 minutes ago we just ordered an illustrator tablet and a scanner, I hope that when these arrive (feb.9th!!!) We will be able to present ourselves more effectively around here.

Anyway, you have made me so happy with your kind words, I have been drawing the king and Queen of hearts a looooong time(You know since I could hold and sniff a crayon!) Good, good luck with your heartbeat shirt and with your gorgeous lion!!

Tons of nits in this thread.

I'm buying this the second it comes out - I wake up for work at 430AM EST daily and hope it doesn't sell out before then - it should.

Great/brilliant shirt, haters gonna hate.

Re: halftone heartrise

my design seems to have run out of steam. oh, well. thanks everyone for the kind comments. as for submitting earlier and more often... well... i'm too slow to sub earlier, and i've got a pretty limited repertoire, so i can only submit when i can match up the theme with what i can do, which is not often.

nrarmen wrote:Saying ramyb copied tgentry by using the EKG is such a weak criticism of this design. The EKG was a necessary element for this design to solidify the idea of "heart beat." Without it, the meaning ramyb is trying to convey is greatly lost. (At least from my point of view, I just saw the picture first and said "uh... heart drums???")

That aside, I must say this design disappoints me. I wish the drum set looked better proportionally and the heart a little better as well. Normally I don't care too much if it's perfect because at a glance someone could make out the idea, but being a drummer myself I better understand the claims by others that this style really exaggerates objects terribly...

I like the idea ramyb, but execution is lacking It could have been so much better!

Couldn't have said it better myself.

JadenKale wrote:sadly, the 'om' or 'ohm' has been denoted as text in the past. It may not be hit by the rejectionator (since it's so late in the week) but you should understand that late in the game, or not, 'No Text' means just that: no text.

Thanks for the information. I'm just learning the ropes around here! I thought the ohm helped explain the design better, but thought if it as a symbol rather than text. I appreciate your comment!

tjost wrote:What I'm curious about is do you really hate ALL the designs this week or just the theme so much that everyone's is bad by virtue. You mentioned the bookshelf one, and I like that one too but it kinda had to be in a heart. What would you like to have seen, do you have an idea, no one can steal it now because the deadline has passed for subs. Let us know, I'm sure we're all interested.

It's really more of me having a problem with the theme of the derby. Most of the heart cliches are (surprise) in the fog and being played up just because, and all the other ones that don't cater to the masses I unfortunately don't like because they all have to connect to the theme. So yeah, I think the theme is the problem here.

Fair enough, if someone doesn't like chocolate, no matter how much skill and effort is put into a dessert they still won't like it, maybe next derby eh

I don't see her as oblivious... she's stopped walking and notices the heart-drops. But the way I interpret this is that he's dead, but she can still feel his love around him, raining down from heaven.

And as for the tree. I didn't really see anything wrong with it until someone else mentioned the whole "Steam coming from her head" thing, but I think it was done well. New to Woot, but I'd like to see more from this artist, especially in regards to reimagining of classics.

Well thank you! I'm never sure what I'm going to do week to week but I'm glad you like these

And thanks for all the votes everyone, interesting derby for me fer sure.

I think that the fuzzy creature could say the same thing; just look at the expression on his face! I think we could all say the same about love; we like it, but none of us really understand it. Not really. The shirt is refreshingly honest; I'd buy one.

Art,
You know I will always support your work. You have a level of detail in your pieces that I can't shy away from, no matter what. Keep fighting the good fight and keep working on stuff like this. I really enjoy seeing how you make this style adapt to the weekly themes.

cmdixon2 wrote:I have to agree with Jasneko. It is a charming design. I love the simplicity of it and the way it was colored. Something about the composition of it actually on the shirt bothers me but I'm not quite sure how to explain it. Overall it's a nice design with a lot of potential.

For me, it's the pops of color aren't hand drawn like the rest of it that throws it off for me. They are set shapes from the Custom Shape Tool in Photoshop. If they were hand colored splotches, I think it would have retained the whimsy to totally win me over.

Loved it the first time, love it again. I even don't mind the background, not even the tree! I was definitely in the crowd of freaking out when it got the reject stamp, but I'm super excited it made it back up into the fog. Definitely want this shirt, so my fingers and toes are crossed that it places!

Actually, an Edgar t-shirt factory is third on my list of Things To Do Upon Winning The Lottery (#1 being the construction of a Library Bunker in which to entomb myself at the End of the World--aka Mayan Zombie Apocalypse '12--and #2 being the acquisition of a Champagne-filled grotto pool).

I see how this is a funny image to giggle at someplace like DeviantArt, but a good T-shirt this does not make. Seriously people -- you'll look like you're wearing a fanart on your chest.
