Wait, so are they clouds or are they waves? Both? I saw clouds the first time I looked, but I see the waves too. Everyone else has just been talking about waves.

OK - exactly what animal of the zodiac does the purple...uh...region represent? This shirt is... wow...staggeringly stupefying. Unbelievable work here for sure!

This is a great design. It's really disheartening that this quality of work gets very little support here.

BrettWalking wrote:Yes, it is a somewhat, um, abstracted, representation of the Wu Xing and the Zodiac Snake. The Tree is burning purple, but it turns into earth and then metal (alumina gemstone, if you will). And most obvious is the spring coming from the rock and flowing into a snake.

Trying to color the rock was difficult, and I probably could have done a better job at it.

Okey dokey then.

Oh, and here's a larger, cooler (there may be a pun in that) picture:

eHalcyon wrote:Hmm, you may be right about that. Then again, it might be that they need to lay down two layers of white when printing on black - the initial one, and a second so it's bright. I have no clue - can woot staff or another professional printer (tjost?) weigh in?

When printing on black you need to lay down at least one base (white) for most colors to then be printed on top of it (even if no white is shown in the piece) Sometimes to aid in a nice fade out on black you can have the base halftone terminate before the color does and thus have color print directly onto the black or dark colored shirt to make the transition softer (to illustrate, take a colored highlighter to a white piece of paper then use the same maker on a colored piece of paper and compare the colors, plastisol inks are more opaque then markers but color shift will still occur) If you see white on a black shirt more then likely it used 2 white screens to achieve this.Any Woot shirt on a colored shirt that's 6 colors is actually printing 7 (or more) colors with base plates.

Colors print and blend much nicer on light colored shirts with no base but if you have a dark or really bright color that does a soft fade over a large area you're going to get buildup and screen interference (moire or blotchy patterns). Black is especially bad at doing this. Screen printing dots gain between 25-35% from there original size and any halftones below 7% will not come out uniformly or at all (hard terminations) 10% halftones are still pushing it but are safer. The way you fade from black ink to a white shirt is to have 1 or 2 greys mixed in as secondary and tertiary colors. So you have the black that fades to a medium grey that fades to a light grey that fades to white shirt. The buildup and terminations happen the same but having the extra colors tricks the eye into seeing soft transitions. If I was separating this image in photoshop with alpha channels I'd do it in 3 colors and it would look dang close to whats on screen. The problem lies in that woot makes artists that don't know how to control halftones make them themselves. Hope this helps

BTW I like the Dragon and sorry to clog your thread

Nicely done. You even have the rat riding the ox! My only complaint would be that the dragon is in more of a European depiction. Even though it's wingless, the body proportions aren't those of a Chinese dragon.

I knew most of the rest (though not even close to as much detail - you certainly know your numbers!) but this was the main thing I was looking for.

So yeah, Earth Seed (or whatever it was called) may have been white on black, but it would probably still have had a white base first. Therefore, this does have a better chance of printing well, as it needs no base layer. Of course, better chance is still no guarantee - especially not with Woot.

The Chinese Zodiac is not actually a 12-year cycle - it's 60 years. Along with the 12 animals, it also cycles through 5 elements: water, wood, fire, earth, metal. Come February 14, it will be the year of the metal tiger.

So what you're saying is this shirt is only relevant for one year out of my life?

What do you get when you cross all of the animals in the Chinese Zodiac? This monster! --- and I don't just mean the monster 22 Meg print-ready file. Ugh!

6 colors on lemon: black, green, white, brown, red, orange

pink = red + white; gray = black + white; sorrel = brown + red; other weird colors = black + lemon or green + lemon or brown + lemon.

The head is part rat, part pig, with the ears of a dog, the horns of a ram, and Tongue and fangs of a snake.
The body has the back of a tiger and the belly of an ox.
The neck is a horse.
The tail is a monkey.
Front legs of a rooster.
Rear legs of a rabbit.
Wings of a dragon.

Great job dude! I don't have a blue Woot yet, and you know me and my love of cute animals :D.

My mom and dad use to collect the fancy blue and white china plates from Europe. This reminds me of those special items <3.

I also has a blue and white china kitty in my bathroom. <3
