Re: Luck Reversed
You swapped your detail and shirt comp.

Re: Horse Dunks
I really love your drawing style. Wonderful detail and line work!
Re: Lucky Tipper
Makes me think of Pass the Pigs. :D awesome!
tjost wrote:The only thing is the way you have those diagonal lines the screen may not hold (in fact it probably won't) the image. Your making really thin lines of emulsion on the screen that can break down during rinse out after exposure or on the press. I'd make those lines thicker and resub while it's early
Hmm... I didn't really think they were that thin, but I wont pretend to be a printing expert. Regardless, I don't really have high hopes for this one to print, I just thought it was funny. Thanks for your printing expertise.
Lagbert wrote:Just a note: Lucky horse shoes point up so the luck doesn't run out.
Not always. You can also hang it pointing down so the luck will pour out into your house. Cool design!
kdubbs29 wrote:Amazing illustration! I can't believe the depth you can get with only 6 flat colors.
Thanks. I really struggled with the colors on this one. I'm used to having an infinite color choices. I went nuts with the hue/saturation tool, tweaking and then tweaking some more.
Re: Lucky Number
Amazing details and very cool concept! You are such a master, Patrick. Also, it should be noted that a lot of people view many different things as lucky. Gamblers (read: lil' old ladies in casinos) are very superstitious and carry all kinds of 'lucky charms'. Keychains of their favorite animals, those little troll dolls with the wacky hair...all kinds of stuff. <--had to know this at one point for job ^^;
For some reason, I would really like to own a shirt with a sneaker on it. I can't really say why.
lol!
Great work as usual.
Re: Lucky Dynasty
hi luna. please don't take offense, just here to help. you may want to change some things around in here. the thumbnail does not match the comp which is a big woot no-no so they'll reject the submission. i would resub where the thumbnail doesn't have the light brown being half of it, since the shirt doesn't look that way. also, you comp design is completely different colors than your final tee. you may not want to do that either. kinda depends on the rejectionator's mood if that will slide. but the thumbnail will kill it first. good luck though with a resub!
Re: Make Your Own Luck
Hmm, I hope the cuteness of the bunny doesn't keep people from enjoying the theme of the shirt...

Never underestimate people's desire to have puke on their shirt...
jupilberry wrote:Detail does not match the shirt comp.
Sure it does. The bits are moved around to lure more people to click on it, but they're all the exact same bits from the actual shirt. Same way people have "Please vote" or "Click to vote" on their previews, but after shifting around the whole group in illustrator for 15 minutes, I decided to get the two relevant bits of the joke into my 240x240 square.
Interesting concept. Dunno if i'd wear it, but it sure is nifty.
Re: make your own luck
I like how when looking at the design on the shirt, the green from the tape dispenser almost finishes the leaf it covers up, making it look like a regular 4-leaf clover from afar.
Is that Death's lucky sickle behind the horse shoe?
No problem. Just remember that your making a stencil on the screen with emulsion that is very tempermental. With the line you made you are "cutting" channels to let the ink flow in and fill your diagonal space. What it's also doing is creating really thin long strips of emulsion on either side of it that doesn't have alot of surface hold, so after the screen is exposed the emulsion that stayed loose because the film positive blocked the light need to be washed off the screen. This is usually done with a pressure washer (though some low end shops just use a garden hose). That water hitting those thin lines can either blast them of entirely or push them so they become wavy and can fall off later. The reason that doesn't happen to half tones (generally) is the small dots allow the water to flow around them while long lines like that bear a greater force against them (think of a wind storm and holding a small umbrella versus a giant one, the giant one will have more push on it) Anyways, enough of technical stuff, keep doing your thing

Those eyes have pulled me in! This is adorable..and disturbing...two great flavors that go great together!

Thanks! I could not remember the other bad luck elements to that episode. I tried finding it online, but I could only find very basic plot descriptions.

Funny and nice job! I also did a lucky cat

This is true. Maybe the cosmic radiation has already taken effect.

Too bad the foreground art is so awful! Really? Even Ramy can do better than a round-headed person.
Re: Lucky Pup
Yuck. I can totally appreciate your drawing talent (definitely more natural talent than I have), but these shirts are just cutesy dreck. I hate being a jerk, but it drives me nuts seeing all of these shirts in the fog ahead of some other really good ones. It just seems like wasted talent to me.
kdubbs29 wrote:Thanks! I could not remember the other bad luck elements to that episode. I tried finding it online, but I could only find very basic plot descriptions.
My wife and I are both huge Brady Bunch geeks. I'll usually tell her one of the plots from an episode as if it happened to me. That usually starts and hour of "Did I ever tell you about the time I got trapped in a freezer with my brother Bobby", etc.
great colors caped! and i am with on the dunks. this made me think of the crazy sb colorways lately for some reason. speaking of which.....i just traded my marge simpsons and my extra pair of quagmires for a pair of de la souls! can't wait for summer!

Good stuff to know. Thanks for always posting useful info.
I've been a bitter, hard, nasty critic of your really bad drawn manga-like animals (I still am) but with this i have to admit is awesome. Maybe in the future we can see artwork from you vote worthy (like this).
For those interested in the symbology: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Symbols#International I'm guessing the tortoise has to either do with Hindu mythology (the whole "holds the universe" thing) or Chinese oracle bones (maybe Greek too?). I didn't really bother to scour Wikipedia any further. As for the eye, might be just representative of eyelashes in general? Unfortunately, while I like the design, I won't vote for it as I don't particularly like wearing black T-shirts (the black always washes out more than my liking).
