Two of my favorite works mashed together; The Siren's Song from Homer's "The Oddessy" and the classic children nursery rhyme "Rub a Dub Dub."

HAHA!

I would have to agree! Not normally a fan of the roach...the only animal on the planet that people kill without thinking twice.

However, I love the shirt and I would definitely wear this one! Very funny idea!

I really like the textures and the illustration. But I don't think I'd wear a shirt with a big block of ink like that.

Shouldn't there be 3 men in the tub too? Or would that be too sexual for woot? :P Sorry...I just had to go there

I like that there is still a difference in the other entry with the same two stories being collaborated. The colors look great in this shirt. +1

Is that mushroom supposed to be behind Frankenstein's monster? At first I thought it was growing out of his head lol. Just makes it a crazier party :P Anyway, good job on all the characters

Re: D.QUIXOTE X FRANKENSTEIN

When I see this thumbnail, I think dirty, dirty thoughts. I think it's the overall placement and "domination" on the part of Frankenstein.

My problem, not yours.

Haha.

I'm kind of underwhelmed by what could have been an amazing derby based on the theme alone. Hopefully we get some awesome submits this weekend.

I like! My first idea was Jonah meeting Capt. Ahab in the whale, but then i remembered that Capt Ahab wasn't acutally eaten - just pulled into the depths of the sea. Couldn't figure out how to make it work.... Great design! +1

Exactly why i don't like this shirt. The whole outline of the print area is just ridiculous. It needs to flow naturally into the shirt itself.

Meh.

5 colors on asphalt, hope you like it.

This is really cool looking! I love the colors and everything. Except... I think the drawing is too big on the shirt. Still, genius! GMV.

I think there are only 5 with a lot of small halftones:

Yellow, Green, Dark Green, Pink, Purple

Re: Charlotte's Web/The Lord of the Flies

It is great but neither book is public domain.

Having said that, maybe it'll be okay legally speaking since it's clearly parody.

Although, in the spirit of the competition, it is not technically following the rules.

I am pulling for this one to not be rejected, though.

I read the title before looking at the design. When I looked at the design, I probably stared at it for 5 whole seconds thinking how you represented the Mad Hatter as a hunchback.

Boy, did I feel dumb.

Re: Sherlock of Oz

Cool stuff. I really like the way you staged this illustration.

I colored a Sherlock Holmes (or as I call it, "victorian mustache squad")comic last year. I suspect that if this scene happened in the comic, the flying monkeys would have had mustaches and mutton chops.

Re: We're not in Kansas anymore...

The real problem with the red shoes is that in the book, the slippers are silver, not ruby. Which makes the Dorothy in this shirt a movie reference rather than a book reference.

The War of the Worlds ship, while very cool, also looks more movie-inspired than book-inspired to me.

Not that I'm a nerd, or anything.

I'm slightly perplexed by the Abe Lincoln reference since he was, well, a real person. Although appearing in many stories, of course.

I really do like the art & design of the shirt, it's just those couple of references that worry me.

grayehound wrote:I was mistaken in calling it the Book of Life (that's from another religion entirely). It is the Book of the Dead, though I've heard it called the Book of the Afterlife, too.

Also called the "Breathing Permit," if that entertains you. Thanks for providing the translation of the hieroglyphics - I was too lazy to pull out my copy of Gardiner and try to work it out. I do feel that because there's nothing specifically Book of the Dead about it, it's off-topic, but no more so than the octopus shirt from the comics derby that's been on sale all day today. So while I'd like to stand up for rigor in derby theme, Woot doesn't bother & I happen to like this shirt quite a bit! So I'll be part of the problem ;) and leave my vote where it is.
