Re: The Metamorphosis/The Picture of Dorian Gray

Just in case:

Dorian Gray tells of a young man named Dorian Gray, the subject of a painting by artist Basil Hallward. Realizing that one day his beauty will fade, Dorian cries out, expressing his desire to sell his soul to ensure the portrait Basil has painted would age rather than himself. Dorian's wish is fulfilled, plunging him into debauched acts. The portrait serves as a reminder of the effect each act has upon his soul, with each sin displayed as a disfigurement of his form, or through a sign of aging.

The opening line from The Metamorphosis: "When Gregor Samsa woke up one morning from unsettling dreams, he found himself changed in his bed into a monstrous vermin."

I felt that both tales have a lot of themes in common, especially the externalization of the fears and desires of the internal self....and who doesn't like a bug in a suit?

Re: Holmes/Metamorphosis

@Mavyn, @dmecey, @hewtab- Thanks very much! The whole time I was working on this, I was asking myself if anyone would actually even think about wearing vermin on a shirt. I'm glad that the cute was strong enough to at least make people consider it.

@Spiritgreen- Thanks! It was a pleasant surprise how the 'cape' look came out. And if there's a chance to make a bad pun, I'm there.

Utterly brilliant, you two. Details, colors, concept... *_*

I especially like the lighting on cthulhu. It reminds me of that soft sea glow in the early mornings and late evenings.

This one probably ought to be rejected, but it was too much fun to leave alone. I leave it to the whim of the Woot Gods.

Re: Charlotte's Web/The Lord of the Flies

This would be my first t-shirt purchase if not for the spider. No offense, but the spider looks nothing like Charlotte.

Charlotte has bigger and more feminine eyes. Even the body shape is wrong.

If you fix the spider, I am in!

Re: Treas.Isl./Finn/Hyde - Mashed Potato Mash-Up

I really like your art here, but there is a problem. There is a real disconnect between the coloring of the mashed potatoes and the rest of the piece. You've got some great textures and depth going on with the way you've inked the potatoes.

The use of colored lines is both what makes it great, but it's also kind of killing the piece. Well, it's not so much the colored lines, so much as it's the black lines you used for everything else. It's like you've taken a realistic drawing and threw a cartoon on top of it.

I'm trying to figure out how you can make it work. I think the first thing I'd do is lose the white color of the plate and the spoon. They could be the same color as the potatoes, with a different colored outline. Lose the outline on the peas, the gravy and the toothpick. You might need to adjust the color of the peas a little, then find a yellowish color that will work as a highlight color for the gravy, the peas and that toothpick (is that a toothpick?], Find an outline color for the spoon an plate.

So you'd have the following

mashed potato,plate,spoon local color
mashed potato shading color
Peas local color
gravy,toothpick local color
peas,gravy,toothpick highlight color
spoon,plate outline color

It'll take some work to get everything just right, but I think that the right coloring can make this a great piece.
