Thanks everyone for the great comments and votes! Really appreciate it. Nice to see this one doing decently even with a bit of a late start.

bennyIV wrote:I have to agree with this - I'm not sure the lemon tee would really look like sand, and I'm not sure how it would look with that blue that meshes so well with the creamy color we're seeing on screen. I would definitely have done this on cream.

SUPERB design though, so I'll be voting for it anyway.

Thanks!
Here's a quick mock on one of my wife's lemon shirts. Not too different from the comp color.

Of course colors can vary a lot depending on the lighting.

Great colors and design. The rainbow looks good but is a little too fabulous for me to wear. However it really does complement the rest of the design. Hmmm.. actually this design is too good not to wear.

So, thanks everyone!

Im not an artsy person...Im the average consumer who would buy and wear these shirts for amusement. This idea is really neat and I like the play on words.

You know, the only issue I have is... What do I tell people when Im wearing the shirt? Why am I wearing a Seussian character with a skull on a plate? Outside of the woot theme, it has no real context and kind of a "huh?" factor.

With that said...Im still voting for it ;) I just cant see myself wearing it.

Thanks Cmdixon. Glad the simplicity works... and what a nice dad to know your daughter's shirt tastes: )

SnowQueenVT wrote:Jasneko, you captured the magic with this one, the little mermaid is perfect, she reminds me of the mermaids from my PeterPan book when I was a kid, but of course it's my favorite ...Ariel!

Really beautiful, sweet and wonderful, also a nice oceany feel with the whale.

Oh! I know what you mean about the Peter Pan books... I used to love the mermaids in my Peter Pan books. Thanks for the lovely comments SnowQueen!

Very clever idea. My only suggestion would be to use more color and less of the T-shirt as shading. It seems a little bare...

I'll take "fabulous" as a compliment.

Either way, I think most people understand that the rainbow is an iconic symbol associated with Noah's Ark, and won't misinterpret it.

Tried to keep Alice similar to the traditional illustrations, hopefully it's not too similar though.
And Lucifer has three heads, though two are in the back/not quite as obvious.

Hope you like it! Constructive criticism is more than welcome! Especially since this is my first entry.

I love the idea and I don't have any specific criticisms right now. I think it's not quite there yet, but I see lots of potential. I can tell you are thinking about anatomy as you draw the figures, and you're thinking about composition and color with the design elements.

Yeah I can't really put my finger on specific things, I just think you're on the right track somehow. Sorry to be vague.

jasneko wrote:Hey the fog! Thanks voters!

I was just saying this in the pre-derby thread... I'm a tad embarrassed of being one of so many whale entries... I didn't quite expect that. I personally have had whales on my mind because I've been researching them recently.

And since I have... speaking of Ahab...I discovered that despite it being illegal, 1000 whales per year are still hunted - very upsetting! And then there are all the other dangers for whales because of people - pollution, collisions with ships, getting caught in fishing gear - pretty bad. Whales are really awesome creatures! So, since this seems to be a very whale-y derby, but there aren't actually so many in the world, if anyone is interested in reading more about whales: Link to World Wildlife page about them.

And, just in case... if you even want to donate (any amount!) to help protect them, you can do that too - or even adopt a whale:D

Made me think of this: http://www.wdcs.co.uk/media/flash/whalebanner/content_pub_en.html

This is an interactive, life-sized photo of a blue whale. It's as if your laptop screen is a window through which you can look at one small part of the whale at a time. The website was set up to raise awareness of the threat of commercial whaling.

Warning: it begins with the eye, which is a little freaky the first time you see it!

Just thought that I'd mention that I work in theatre (I paint scenery). And poking fun at anything shakespeare is very popular with most of us technicians. We're all so darned sick of it. Many of us are also huge Woot fans so I can prettymuch guarantee quite a few buyers if this prints!

Re: Charlotte's Web/The Lord of the Flies

I love both of these books. But, this just reminds me out of a part of Lord of the Flies, but you just added Charlotte to the top of the pig's head.

And, I did look up whether these books were public domain, and it turns out neither of them are.

This is a great website to check out if a book is public domain or not

Here is what they say about Lord of the Flies/all of Golding's works

Here is what they say about Charlotte's Web

Usually you are safe if the work is published before 1923.

Ghost42 wrote:This design is amazing. At first I though "oh no! this is going to get DQ'd because Cthulu is copyrighted" (that's why it was removed from first version of the the Dieties & Demigods book, right?) but then I looked it up and realized it was in the public domain which is awesome because that means this shirt has a chance at 1st.

Woot has also printed at least two Cthulhu shirts in the past (that is to say I've bought two Cthulhu shirts from woot, don't know if they had previous ones). So they're clearly willing to put everyone's favorite Great Old One onto a shirt.

I tried to make this design look like a wood cut print. All the vector elements in this design are linear.

Hope everyone enjoys!

Love! I love everything about it! I love Noah, and how ridiculously stiff the llama is, and the male lion's tongue sticking out (I think). Just so you know, thogh in my shirt story, when this prints and I buy it, I'm going to tell people that Noah beat off the squid and it dropped the llama back onto the boat.

:D That's a perfectly valid interpretation of the story.

I made the llama stiff on purpose so that it almost looks like it doesn't care or isn't in any real danger, because I thought that would be funnier than having it flailing around in panic. I can imagine a scenario in which the squid just sets it down, and it goes about its business like nothing happened. LOL. I'm glad you appreciate it!

I still say it gets eaten though. ;P

Re: Through the Looking Glass into Dante's Inferno

Definitely like the concept, but I think it could stand to be a little more illustrative. The amount of halftones you used makes it a little to "graphicy". I'm ok with the characters as you have them though. Nice work regardless.
