Nice re-do on the colors and positioning. This works much better.

Shoot! I was doing this exact scene!
At least I didn't get much further than the sketch phase. Here's my quick sketch. Crazy similarities.

Good luck you guys!

Thanks CMD! I like your sketch! Feels like a crime scene. Lots of similar uses of characters in this derby.

I had the exact same idea as another post in the derby.

Thank you very much, Kalari! The drawing took a lot longer than I thought, but I think it turned out okay :-)

Vote right back 'atcha.

Re: Hamlet/Peter Pan Redux

After staring at it a while, I realized it was just too dark and grim (as is too often the case). So I cheered it up.

Vote for either, or both!

Arrrgh, I want to utterly love this, because the concept is amazing, the colors work nicely, and the art is great, but I just can't get behind those halftones

Very nice illustration! This definitely has my vote, though because it's on white and I'm, err, allergic to things paler than I am, I won't be able to purchase it.

I feel faintly guilty voting for this, since nothing about those hieroglyphics says "Book of Life" over "any random hieroglyphic inscription," so far as I can see. But... I just... can't... help myself! Must vote! I think it's the Ra dish waving the ankh spoon that did me in.

I love this. I haven't seen many shirts thus far that I would consider extremely wearable outside the context of the derby, but this one is very nicely done. GMV and good luck.

Actually, the heiroglyphs spell out (phonetically) 'Hey Diddle Diddle'. At least according to this site:

Re: Treasure Island/ The Sign of the Spider

@marzipanapple, thanks marz' that perspective was tricky! I really wanted the ship to feel like it was ploughing forwards.

@DianaSprinkle, glad you like the colors. It's an unusual palette for sure but I think it matches the weird subject matter. ^_^

@jonathan3botts, I did try some more webbing to the bow but it was a little too busy. It was quite challenging to keep this design readable, I very nearly gave up this morning at one point when it was a mess of incomprehensible outlines but somehow I think I found a good balance.

@capedcrusader', thanks and it's suited to a big print. I wish I'd shown it a little larger in the comp. But there's a BIG VERSION viewable now too. :^)

Thanks to paigeg, keelhaulkate and theWanker too for all the support!

Whew! So glad this turned out how I wanted.

Re: alice's adventures in wonderland/Land of Oz

Def. enjoying the Zap Comics vibe you've kept going this week. Not sure if this is something I'd personally wear, but i can appreciate the artistry that went into it.

I know it's not really Gaiman's 'Merv Pumpkinhead', but I'm going to *pretend* it is, because it only makes this design more appealing.

Re: Dracula Meets Long John Silver

Poor Long John Silver. Not even the meanest pirate stands a chance against Dracula. Bram Stoker's Dracula lands on Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island.

I LOVE this theme! I just happen to be teaching Treasure Island to my English class right now so I could not resist using it as my inspiration. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did designing it!

Re: Hey Diddle Diddle in the Book of Life

While I like the art, I'm not really sure how on-topic this is. Is any of the imagery shown taken from the actual Book of the Dead, or is the only connection that it's using hieroglyphs? Because if it's the latter it's like saying an entry using letters would be on topic because Moby Dick also uses letters. Since I'm not that familiar with the Book of the Dead, I could be way off base, but I'm just not seeing it. I kind of feel bad even asking about it as this is one of the few wearable shirts up so far.

Re: Resub - MobyDick/The Owl and the grapecat

A resub to fix the whale's mouth a little and generally clean up some things that were bothering me. Please vote again. =D

It's a whale of a tale.

A mash-up of "MobyDick" and "The Owl and the grapecat."

Thanks for all the votes everyone.
