The rejection was for it not being historical. BUNK! The launch of MTV is clearly historical. If it had been rejected for fear of MTV copyright that's a different issue. But then so would McDonalds, and sesame Street and Dr. Suess characters. Now is it hard to imagine the Radio Star ".. 5 feet away.." and trying to prevent the camera from going to air? GMV

At first glance from the thumbnail, I thought it was a painting of "Bozo the Clown." I'm worried that's what folks might think standing 5 feet away from me as I walk down the street.

Yeah I kinda see that on the small thumbnail, but at five feet the painting will be large enough that while you may not immediatley recognize it, it won't look like a clown.

lexbylex wrote:amazing concept, awful color.

why isn't this in light blue instead of some awkward tan?

i needed a color to match both the green of the soldier and the brown of the boots and the general uniform. in my taste, creme did this job better. but that's just a matter of taste, I guess. ;)

thanks for the compliment, though.

Haha, actually when I first saw this design, I thought the painting was a clown.

Look at it from a distant and it kinda does lol

What was happening when the asteroid that destroyed the dinosaurs hit? That’s right! The dinosaurs were on the verge of great scientific discoveries. What a "Setback" to science! Here a teacher is explaining one of their great theories when "the big one" hit. I did a little rework on framing the picture.

Sort of going for an illustration style used in newspapers during the civil war. Thomas Nast's political cartoons being a prime example.

Personally, I think the more awareness, the better. Since humans don't listen to serious scientists, journalists, and activists, maybe they'll listen to humorists. Sometimes making light of a serious situation with jokes and humor can bring more attention than any other method. Let's just hope it works. (At least a little?) (Maybe?) (Please?)

Re: Independence Day Already? Wow, are We Lucky!

Thanks for the comments, folks! I just wanted to say a couple of things about this design . . . 1) I should have called it "Independence from Oil Day Already? Wow, are We Lucky!" Because that is really the underlying theme. 2) These poor schmucks have no clue what is about to hit them, and yet they still try to live their lives as happy as clams. (Although we won't be able to say that for much longer after they suck up all of the sludge.) 3) Independence Day from Oil will (hopefully) free many species of animals on this planet from the wrath of mankind by eliminating destruction of property that really should not be considered as ours, but theirs. So the critters in the design are happy because they see an end to a longtime milking of wildlife in the name of oil. 4) Uhhhh . . . duh, people (sheeple?), are we awake yet? 5) Sorry about the pessimism.

Re: The man who ended the war

The real joke of the design has to be read further down the shirt. What most people are going to see is just a Help! Help! I'm being oppressed! on your chest. Not something I would wear. Nicely drawn illustrations though.

Re: The Missing Gene

This is full of heckyeah! But, like others have said, Gene Simmons is known for being very letigious. I made a small parody art of his KISS makeup some time back and was also warned about it. I had to change it significantly to avoid trouble. I think as long as the makeup isn't 100% accurate you should be safe. I am amost positive this will place!

Thanks, I appreciate it. The look comes from the way my pencils interact with the paper I use before I scan it and clean it up. I'm afraid to clean it up too much or it will look all smooth.
