Re: Old School Classics (Steampunk)

You know, hate to say it but I don't think this is steampunk. More like a simple anachronism.

I'd see it as steam punk if the headphones had been hod-podged together out of Victorian elements. A modern pair of headphones on a Victorian guy is just crossing time periods.

Great point (you are correct, the Milky Way is a barred Spiral), i knew this, but somehow it didn't make the design. If i ever try re-doing this design (which i would like to do at some point) i will include it.

I had many more ideas for this design that didn't make it as well.

My daughter wishes she had created this shirt design! She has to do an 8th grade project that illustrates her knowledge of the Parts of Speech. This would have been perfect!

Coolest.

I don't dislike this as a design, per se. I just don't see the chosen theme in this at all.

Azurett wrote:And what are Koopas based off of? TURTLES. I don't understand why so many people are picking at this shirt..especially the PARODY CARTOON TURTLE'S anatomy. I'm pretty sure when Ramyb was doing this design, which is a parody of the koopas from Mario, he was trying to get them to look as close to the koopas as he could. He was not trying to make them look like REAL turtles.

Maybe you guys just haven't played Mario enough, or you just dislike something about Ramyb's designs and you try to pick at everything you can to try and get this rejected. Well, too bad. This design is epic, and no one could have done it better than Ramyb.

As someone who played mario plenty enough as a kid, these don't look remotely like koopas either. the eyes are totally off (koopas have big eyes on the top of their heads, like a muppet), koopas walk upright, and regularly, if I recall correctly, sported footwear. They also weren't green past their shells.

Which leads me to personally believe that, well, pretty much ANYONE could have done it better.

Tell your mom your friend Tasha says the wearing the hammer & sickle doesn't make you a commi. ; )

BTW, for you guys that were thinking this makes a better poster than shirt (and it is supposed to look like a poster slapped on a shirt) you could always get a big size and cut it out. If you're crafty you could even stitch it on to something else. Just saying, might look good.

I just kind of thought of this concept a few hours ago. Had the idea of "what superhero would another superhero want to be". Hope it looks okay, a little rushed, but I am taking summer classes and I have a test tomorrow.

Enjoy.

You have my three favorite equations:
- The fundamental theorem of calculus
- Taylor series expansion of e^x
- Euler's equation

I mean, seriously?
e(i*pi) + 1 = 0?
Beautiful.

To be fair, I generally have a personal dislike for graphics that take up an entire shirt, preferring that they be restricted to the breast. So, it's merely incidental that the poster design is not for me. I know many people don't share my own aesthetic tastes for shirt-layout and I sincerely hope they give this a good vote, for, it truly is a clever and deserving design.

Since you seem to be familiar with Mario and no one else seems to have an explanation, can you explain WHY these turtles/koopas are being taught this? Because from my experience with Mario Kart they are empty shells that are being fired. So why are they being taught this if they are not even in the game and have no effect on how the shells will move? Does anyone voting for this actually understand that it doesn't even relate to the game? Or are they just voting because it's turtles and Mario?

Uh, yeah. Really. Explain please? Why are the turtles/koopas begin taught this when they are not even in the game this is parodying as shown and would have nothing to do with it? It's a valid question seeing that the entire joke of the shirt hinges on the idea that the turtles are the ones steering the shells. Anyone explain? At least in the Threadless design this is borrowing from the characters on the shirt are actually in the game. I'm only familiar with Mario Kart Wii, but in that game they are just firing empty shells. So really this shirt makes no sense, unless I'm just missing something? If you don't have an answer that's fine, but I think it's a fairly valid question given that this parody seems to have very little understanding of what it's actually parodying. You might as well have Donkey Kong teaching some trees that will eventually be made into barrels what direction to go down the construction girders. Because that's basically what's happening in this design. Of course then there wouldn't be cute turtles to distract from the obvious and the idea would just seem strange and pointless.
