I totally agree. When I first saw the title I thought, "Oh, sweet!", but then I saw the shirt and I was like, "Huh? Where's the fractal?"

Inspired by the "trippy" aspect of psychedelia more than copying any specific style.

Re: The End: Lost was one crazy Trip

As Lost-based designs go, this is far better than most, and better than anything Teefury has printed. However, I don't see any psychedelia here.

This would be fitting for a techno/electronica theme, maybe, but not psychedelia.

The branches are self-similar. Fractal enough for me.

And to beat the psychedelic dead horse: Is this design true psychedelic art? No. Is it inspired by psychedelia? Yes. Is it on-theme? In my opinion, yes.

Also, it's awesome that the off-themers are getting high blood pressure over someone not following their rigidly defined notions of ... psychedelia.

Peace, Love, and STAY WITHIN WITHIN THE F!@#ING LINES, apparently.

Thanks!

The little one is doing better now that she's not being poked & prodded by ER staff. Her fever is coming down a little bit, and she's eating again too. Good times. Still cranky as all get-out though, but I guess with a UTI that's understandable.

vrubinst wrote:Wow! I love the design enough to break my self-imposed embargo on turtle-related stuff ('cause it was getting a little out of control)... but I can't help imagining a turtle inhaling a big old lungful of water and then choking and drowning. So I guess I'm a little conflicted, here. Maybe a fish or a larval/paedomorphic salamander... but they just wouldn't have been as cute.

Hahaha...yeah...that was something I thought about actually. Also thought about saying "Breath of Fresh Air," but it wouldn't have looked as good with the design IMHO. Either way, glad ya like it! Tell a friend (or 200 if ya want me to catch up and print).

That's kind of what I was thinking. Reminds me of an EQ visualization in a techno track, not psychedelic visuals. Still a nice looking design though, just not sure if it'll make it past the rejectionator...

Ridiculously cool and creative. I love the punnage. This is a shirt I'd love to get for a friend who's a Spanish major. She'd adore it, and it'd be the best B-day gift ever! Nice color choices and mixing too.

Just realized you technically need an accent mark over the first 'o' in 'Como.'

Really not digging the pixellated edge around the background colors. Any way to smooth that out?

The shape of the smoke is what really draws my eye on this one (aside from the giant blue cat, haha!). Great job on that detail. Also, you capture the facial expression of a nonchalant, yet scheming kitty perfectly.

Re: Crossover

Clean and nicely done. The only thing that might make it better would be if you have an astronaut peeking in the side of the space side. A close up of his helmet and a hand reaching out sort of thing. And maybe some small birds in the background of the sky side to balance it. Right now, it's intriguing and a good contrast, but a bit shallow. An astronaut and very small birds in the top right might add more depth/intrigue.

Re: Fractal Tree

For those of you saying this isn't psychedelic enough to be on topic. Go to Youtube, and look up "Fractal Sets" "Fractal Zooms" or "The mandelbrot fractal set." An equation with no solution is plugged into a computer, and remainders are set to colors. These equations show the nature of similarity in everyday life, and repition in mathematical equations. A fractal zoom shows an image plotted on a graph, and then show how the tiny intricacies of the image repeat themselves.

Seriously...look it up. If that's not the trippiest thing youve ever seen....then you've taken acid.

Re: Fractal Tree

Were I to see the majority of shirts entered in this derby on the street, the only thought that would come to my mind is that they are awful. The art style wouldn't even register.

This shirt, however, looks awesome. I still wouldn't think Psychedelia, but that's because I don't care about said art style and never looked into much; you know, like 99.99% of Earth's population.

The design is crazy, it's weird, and yet still doesn't make me think the artist is completely devoid of any style. That is why it is in the fog.

I love the design - It's my favorite I've seen on the site, with "How Rainbows are Made" being a close second. I love your work! Please keep the designs coming!

And if it's any comfort to you guys, I never even thought of homosexuality looking at the shirt design until I read the comments!

Nope...unfortunately you'd have to start over in terms of votes. You may be well advised to do that anyway, because now upon a second look, you didn't use a woot shirt template either. I think they reject designs based on that sometimes too, so you may end up losing your votes anyway. The quicker you resub, the better off you'll be if that happens.

Also, looks like you used the same photo reference for your llama drawing as I did last week...lol...

Hahaha...yeah...glad you did say that though, otherwise I probably wouldn't have changed it...and so far it's working out for more votes than the original. Just don't see it overtaking any of the top-runners (barring some sort of miracle). You don't happen to specialize in miracles do you?

I've been starting to get a good amount of votes in the first couple of hours, which I assume is from people who are hanging around the pre-derby and that's cool. But, something about my style or ideas or whatever has zero appeal for most of the voting base here. I can accept that, but at the same time it makes me wonder why I'm trying to stick a square peg into a round hole. Again, I'm not really interested in changing to please people, I'll keep doing what I do till I find somebody who likes it.

I for one would like to know where I can go to find out where you are posting new work in the future. I have only been coming to woot for a few months now but I became an instant fan of your work and every derby I am hopeful your work will print. I am still hoping you print the Alice in Wonderland/Wizard of Oz crossing paths from the literature derby somewhere so I can buy it. I will be sad to see you go from the derbies but you must stay true to your art and your passions. Please let us know where we can seek out your t-shirts in the future so that I might be able to support you with more than just my vote each week.
