Shirt.Woot

Hey folks. I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas, so I came up with a team shirt. Comments? Any ideas of how I could make this more interesting, such as use this as an element in some other design idea?

haha i was afraid someone would have the same idea as me with eyes on the soccer ball. i think mine is different enough tho from yours so far.

what i have so far

It is so funny how much complaining there is about this derby, and already how many creative shirts are showing up.

Also, I realize that wooters are a bunch of nerds, who don't care about soccer, let alone any sport, but I think that's why woot said to add aliens. Like, a nerdy version of the world cup? you can make fun of all of those sports t-shirts you hate and apparently will never buy.

How do you submit an idea?

Here's the soccer ref coming into form. Open to suggestions.

The artists, not designers, at this site have spoken: "this is a horrible theme, and anything we create is not going to sell well." Any designer who doesn't design this weekend for this crapshoot can make something they respect for some client that wants something creative, or simply for themselves. That's, in the end, more worth their while. Only three designs this derby will print. Nothing else will be worth selling to anyone else.

Football is the most amazing sport in the world. So excited cuz there's just six days till the first match in South Africa.
For those trying to come up with something it'd be helpful to look at the logos and posters from the past world cups, since the beginning in 1930, for some inspiration.
I'll try to make something tomorrow.

Adder, can I just say, that I love your comments. Woot is such a fun site, all the designs and commentaries. I love skimming through comments knowing that there is at least a good Adder rant in there somewhere.

Thanks man, and I'm totally with you. I know as much about soccer as I do about water polo, which is to say, next to nothing. Then again, I'm not much of a sports guy at all.

Figured my best bet to get involved in this wacky contest idea is to make an illustration of the theme, plain and simple.

I thought that artists designed to be creative and not based on what might sell. This is a creative theme that might stretch a designer's imagination and creative abilities, why would they care if noone might buy their shirt? For those who doesn't like football or don't know anything about it. You guys should really give it a try. What better opportunity than the world cup to do it.
I've seen this amazing sport growing and growing here since the 94 world cup when we hosted it. Now we have a good national team to support, and if you're not the supporting kind, watch it just for the game itself.
From the soccer moms following their kids teams to semi and professional players breaking through England and Germany I think this country is a Football territory on the making.

Pink isn't a color normally offered by woot, so there haven't been any pink shirt winners. They're not allowed.

Any other feedback or suggestions? I kinda did a purposely messy style with the planets.. does it look ok?

Soccer is one of my favorite sports and I still wouldn't buy any of the shirts that would come from this derby. For example, I think draxxx's shirt is damn good artwork, but I wouldn't buy it cause its soccer and its one of those "why are you wearing that on your chest" kinda designs.

I still have a very very slight slimmer of hope that something good will come out of this derby, but its hard thinking of anything that would look good.

I really am just waiting to see some of the designs though. I'm expecting to be horrified by some mongoose alien presenting a soccer ball to an ever curious bunny/penguin/turtle. Or maybe laugh a smidge at a design with aliens shooting out soccer balls out their flying saucers and destroying buildings and capturing humans with soccer nets. All I know is that I'll be saving some money that weekend haha.

Too bad references aren't allowed-- I can't really picture myself buying a soccer-themed shirt unless it involved a foot kicking a soccer ball out of the TARDIS.

Hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised by this derby, but I think we can all expect to see the same four or so designs executed over and over again.

I'd go for it since your design has elements that are not entirely soccer related. It "should" help you stand out, so at the very least you'd have a good shot at winning, if not having a successful selling shirt.

Lol! Frickin' nice, especially considering you weren't really into it. It does have that crisp, vivd, commercial t-shirt feel (as Adder would say, a Walmart t-shirt). Not an insult. I think that'll work very well this derby. And yeah - Woot=meh.

Yay, you're giving blue another shot! Awesome movement and colors. I'm not a soccer fan but I'd consider buying this and it would get my vote either way! ^_^
