He probably shot himself in the foot creating the new version. Most of the people who got the original V in the fog probably have no voted for the v 2.0, since they may not realize it is a different version.

From Clarke's Three Laws:

Thanks for the comments! I'm surprised at how well it's doing now given at how slow it started.

JustJiggles: I thought it was at least mildly creative; no one else had a game driven by mind control. I suppose I could have used a different approach on how to present it, but this was the only way I could see the idea being wearable in any way. As for winning, it was in the voting basement for most of the afternoon yesterday. I'm pretty surprised to see if fogged now, but I still don't hold out hope it can top any of the quality entries now fogged with it.

I think this would do better with a different thumbnail. You're sort of burying the lede here.

I think this would be better without the drag marks. They end up looking like a tee pee. But I really like the overall design.

Wow. In the fog. Weird. I debated whether or not to even submit this one! This is one I wish didn't require the intergalactic aspect and could be just regular foosball players. I tried throwing in an alien overlord but it just didn't quite work so i made the players aliens who mashed the rules of soccer and foosball to make their own sport, fuzeball.

Anyway, I hope you like it.
For those complaining about the ball. I figured the ball bounced back from his goal or they already dropped a new one in. I wanted to include the ball in some way.

Thanks for voting everyone!

Re: That's how we play it in the Milky Way!

I really wish they hadn't made this derby about space soccer specifically. Otherwise, this could have been a truly kickass space chariot race shirt.

I like your design, but the ball under his foot looks more like a volleyball than a soccer/football

Agreeing with the peanut gallery about the soccer ball, but it's still a wicked design.

Fears Reject...Fictional Universe

Just my take, but I think they were thinking more along the lines of very established universes with characters and story lines that are expansive.

The idea of this video game is a simple generic concept, aliens coming down from space to kill, unit on ground to kill aliens. Not much of a universe is involved with that from a very simple game.

But, we'll see on judgment day when the rejectionator get's his game on Monday.

The artist and the artist's friends are just trolling and ruining the derby. These are terrible shirt designs and half the time, are not even close to being on theme. Maybe it was funny the first couple times, but now it is getting really old. It is very disappointing to see this joke be in the fog when something that is actually art and someone who actually put effort and passion into their design are getting left behind.

What makes you think that they're a joke? How do you know the Pucker designer doesn't put "effort" into his design? It's a little presumptuous for you to say that, don't you think?

The design may not be your favorite, but there is no need to be a jerk about it. You should try to be more considerate before hitting "post." Whether you realize it or not, you're insulting a real person.

This is why I despise the derby threads.
They'll let anybody say anything.

Not sure if you should post that? This slightly-nsfw-flowchart will help.

I think you might be thinking of it as a generic concept simply because of the influx of games that came after it that mimicked it. When it was created it was a very specific and original concept. It's akin to saying Lord of the Rings is a generic concept simply because there are so many fantasy stories out there like it. Thus if you made a direct reference to Lord of the Rings you wouldn't be pulling from it's universe because fantasy stories are all over the place. Of course that's ridiculous. The designer didn't approach it as a generic space battle, he/she very specifically chose a title to recreate rather than make it generic. The very act of referencing a specific title (using identical designs from that game world) makes it the opposite of generic. Had he just used the idea of a ship being attacked by alien invaders that would have probably been free and clear since the rules go on to state: Generic eggheaded aliens, slavering tentacled monsters, etc. are acceptable. These aren't generic characters.

The definition of a universe as woot used it: "The sphere or realm in which something exists or takes place." Space Invaders has a space in which something takes place, and using the invaders is making reference to that universe. The size or scope of it is irrelevant, as is the extent of the story. I think it's apparent that this is exactly the kind of thing they were hoping to avoid in this derby: using someone else's SF ideas or IP as the basis for your entry. Just because Space Invaders is "simple" doesn't mean it's not it's own universe and subject to the same derby rules. I think it's apparent we were supposed to use original material this derby. As you said we'll find out when the rejectionator hits.

Galactic Crossfire... you'll get caught in it. CROSSFIRE! For those who don't quite remember the 90's...: Original CrosssFire commercial

And yes this game is a sport of galactic proportions, especially when played with the theme song... and when the loser gets swept into a fiery, spiraling oblivion.

I thought this design would benefit from more explanation of what's going on. Team Handoria has just been informed that they will not be eligible to play in the Intergalactic Football Cup. The team exits the stadium in low spirts.

Considering I've gotten in debates like this before when I don't even have an entry in the derby, maybe I'm just trying to make it a fair competition where everyone is playing by the same restricting rules. Also note I've given my fair share of compliments and votes to other entries in the fog, so again, you're probably off the mark there. But think whatever you like.
