paigeg wrote:Whip or tampon - still just a miss for me. Sorry, Skek - I usually like your work. But this is just gratuitous, pandering to a recent pop fixation. I doubt the band needs to tie themselves to a fleeting cultural symbol.
Thanks for liking my other stuff! Yeah, I know about the pander, but linking to cultural fixations of the day I think works sometimes. Here, maybe not. I was originally trying out some form of octagonal logo, and struck on the LOST thing by accident when I removed a yellow starburst that was in the original concept.

I forgot about that until you mentioned it! Michael has to demonstrate every newsworthy stupidity for us...
parrotworks wrote:You should change the arrow to the red hat logo!
I considered that. I figured my GPS is crude enough that the weird arrow could confuse some people.
Spiritgreen wrote:Nail. Head. What a perfect design for this week. GMV!
Thanks! I thought of it right away but wasn't going to bother doing it since originally i was going to do a full windshield and dashboard view with road signs, speedometer, and the GPS. It just seemed too complicated a way to communicate the intended message. Once I thought of the simpler version I had to throw it out there.

Re: What we do
Sadly, we can't make any changes to the logos we were provided. I dig the concept though.
emalirose wrote:Yes--thank you for being the one to say it. This is very phallic and it's not because every tie looks phallic. Ties don't usually extenuate their "tip"
Looks more like a Tool shirt to me!
Re: Monkey Suit
Best so far. GMV
Jullianagrey wrote:Nice artwork, though I definitely don't get the feel of the band at all from it. This is like a design for Fear Factory or something. It reminds me of the giant robot shirt Drakxxx made awhile back, which ironically enough, reminded me of another shirt printed here awhile ago.
I can't help but feel like this design is a bit too terrifying to be DEVO.
Re: Quite good.
Taken from the rules. "You can use ONLY the included DEVO-approved images and ideas, everything else in your design must be original."
Re: devo-vuzela
The problem with this design is that it is going to be irrelevant in about a week.
Re: The DEVOlution
This face looks familiar, but not sure why.
Re: Whipped into a Frenzy
Oh man, I'm in LOVE with the intense turtle.
Re: communist standard time
Thank you for drawing this. Excellent commentary on the de-evolution of technological growth in the US. Human space flight used to be the catalyst for new technologies. Then the space program was forced to used off-the-shelf technology. Now it will just be sent overseas, where there is no capital and very little initiative to advance. Parrotworks, this shirt needs to be printed. If it isn't printed here, please let me know where you take it.
Re: DE-EMOTICON
Rejected for no logo! I used the dome right of their link.
Re: It's What We Do
LP's, 8-Tracks, Cassettes, Discs, and Flash drives ... what next for music storage ..
Re: He's Got Good Aim
Monkeys rule! Screaming or not, they our our relatives.
Re: Dost thou wanna d8?
Just wanted to say that I think it's completely on topic.
Re: Freedom to Choose
Bummer! I can't believe it was rejected for the color change. I LOVE this Shirt.
Re: DE-EMOTICON ver.2
Has humanity devolved into reducing our emotions and moods virtually to punctuation?! Also, what is as devolved as the stereotypical black concert t-shirt? ...or comic sans? I had to resubmit. Rotating the power dome was enough to have it considered altered. If you liked the original shirt, I hope you like this one even better in the new color scheme.
This is definitely the best design, but I'm surprised it didn't get dinged for altering the logo. Is it because there is a version in tact?
Re: Now We're Rollin'
I'm surprised your designs don't get more play. I think this one would be stronger if the Devo logo was less prominent. Maybe smaller, in the bottom corner.
I think it would be better without the labels. Just the devo logo either where it is now or maybe on the bottom.
paigeg wrote:Totally disturbing. In fact, I would wear this to Uproar with Disturbed headlining. I don't see a win, but wish you luck. I would wear it!
Thanks! I didn't know how this would be received by the woot community as it IS a bit grotesque, but I figured this is my one chance where the Woot community doesn't have all that much to do with the outcome of the derby. That said I just wanted to do something that was totally and irrefutably ME and that felt really good. I would love if Devo found it to be totally and irrefutably THEM too. As requested by the derby blurb it is "baffling" and "vaguely disturbing" right? haha, but we shall see...we shall see...
Re: Devostation
Very cool! You produce undeniable quality every week and this is certainly no exception;)
stupididiot wrote: Taken from the rules. "You can use ONLY the included DEVO-approved images and ideas, everything else in your design must be original."
I knew I'd seen this image before. I actually saw it on a very racist and awful anti-Obama sign. It appears to be on zazzle and cafe press too.
Re: The Weight of It All
Soon its gonna hit this guy..."It's all junk! I have to save Toby!!"
Re: aTTRITION
I REALLY love the creepiness of this. GMV!
Re: Tech-Junky (Now 100% Rule Compliant!)
I think I like the other color scheme better, however this is still an amazingly well-drawn design. Awesome job!
tjost wrote:I actually like the incorporation of photos into a design when done well, which I think you did here, but Woot really doesn't like photos whether you took them or not I don't think your trying any shinanigans, they just use that rule as a blanket to keep a bunch of photo only pieces cropping into every derby. Hope the best for you though, keep it up you do great work
Woot has stated before that if you use a photo that is your photo it is ok. I saw this come up on a design a few months ago and questioned it as well, a mod backed it up that it was ok if it is your photo you are using.
Re: What We Do - ironic green
I love the crazed look in that cheeseburgers eyes, haha. This is a great design and an awesome song lyric reference. Well done!
Re: The End
Whoa! I see what you did there;) Very cool! But you forgot that along with roosterroaches...Keith Richards will also be left, haha.
I don't know if the rejection reason was actually supposed to be "we can", or if it was one of those situations where the rejectionator accidentally pressed the Enter key too early (I suspect the latter since Joel actually posted an explanation here) but it's amusing. I'd like to see that reason used more often.
Re: DE-EMOTICON v.3 no labels
Emotions and moods reduced virtually to punctuation on a black concert t-shirt...what could more accurately portray humanity's de-evolution? A thanks to PoshGirl, I totally agree the shirt is much better without the labels.
Re: Digital EKG
Going digital is slowly killing our humanity. This EKG graph degrades from a healthy analog spike to a square wave and finally a flat line. I chose lemon yellow, because it ties back to DEVO's yellow radiation suites, and it is a strong contrast to the DEVO blue. As always - comments and suggestions are appreciated!

The top one looks legit. I think that would make it OK.

Looks like a cool shirt to me! GMV
stupididiot wrote:Taken from the rules. "You can use ONLY the included DEVO-approved images and ideas, everything else in your design must be original."
By original they mean hand drawn. I don't know where the monkey thinking originated or how woot will view the other shirts but as far as the original content goes kasey is perfectly in the clear.
mikenytola wrote:Woot has stated before that if you use a photo that is your photo it is ok. I saw this come up on a design a few months ago and questioned it as well, a mod backed it up that it was ok if it is your photo you are using.
Saw this as well. If you take the photo yourself, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it (other than style preference). Honestly, I'm not that big of a fan. However, I *am* a fan of people taking their own pictures and using them. Work it, Robbie! Good luck.
Definitely some devolution going on here. I love how the burger's eyes are set, haha.
I liked the other color scheme so much better, the green/blue gave off a cold, technical feel, whereas this feels more human- more natural. Still love the artwork, still would buy one.
mrwednesday wrote:By original they mean hand drawn. I don't know where the monkey thinking originated or how woot will view the other shirts but as far as the original content goes kasey is perfectly in the clear.
Agreed. There are significant differences if you look at the hand and facial shapes. This should be ok. Artists use visual references all the time. It's tracing without significant alteration that will get you into trouble. I'm guessing the thinking chimp is a common internet image? Chimps are scaaaary! This is a great entry, Kasey! Good luck!
This looks like Evolution, not De-evolution to me.
