Re: Cirque De Gotham

compared to most of your entries, it didn't seem finished. i saw it in the forums with a crocodile.

not to offend you, but this looked like you decided "aw f*** it." didn't seem like a serious entry i guess.

Happy Beer.

Maybe I'm very tired, but I was sitting staring at it expecting the characters to move. :^) It's that perfect little snapshot of life quality that it has. (Or my lack of sleep.)

Voted.

Aww thanks Spiritgreen! Very nice to see your comments. And that's pretty funny you were expecting them to move, hehe - nice! I need sleep too... O_o

Thanks JRWorkshop! The chameleon was an addition - a suggestion by TheFlyinglime in the pre-derby thread - a good one!

I concur. Yellow isn't a fave. And while I love the illo, I think it will be far too absract for the masses. Suxx man, I SO love your style.

Weird, man (wo-?), I love ya, but you really got to post a link to bigger comps. Your details are rad, from what we all can see, but a better look would totally help.

No offense taken. I started to draw it the other way and didn't like the look of the crocodile with this layout. I also started to do the other elements in a more airbrushy style and didn't like the look of it. I ultimately thought it might be cool if the other elements were just sort of scribble drawn to go along with the madness of the joker.

I'm pretty much beyond the point of even hoping to do well in these derbies. I did something that I thought was fun and submitted it. But, I still stand behind the design 100%

Re: ruff part of town

At first I was going to ask for a link to a bigger comp so I could see what the sign on the left says. Then I thought - who cares? This is cutE1 Then I thought - Other people will want to know what the sign says... Maybe just a squiggle suggesting text would work better? IDk. I just know actual text at this size would be lost.

Unfortunately my designs seem to fall short with the votes, but i am honored that you would buy it

p.s. I am working on a new one that is just as good as this

Sadly, nice as this is, it can't work. It's outside Woot's print area. They typically don't do hem-placement designs, and certainly not for a derby.

Re: Just Us Two

Love the line art. I just don't think it's going to work well at this extreme level of contrast for most folks. It's got a 70's glow-on-velvet feel that puts me off - JMO.

Re: Man's Best Friend

I know exactly where you got this concept, and definitely love your rendering of that iconic photo/idea. But I think you absolutely need ot pull in some city element to survive the derby. Some understated brick wall background would work, especially if you added a couple of random elements, like litter - just a hint. Otherwise, it's just a person hugging a dog and, no matter how well-intentioned, not a good derby fit.

I've been to Dallas and loved that city. I only wish this looked more like it - referenced it more exactly with a single diamond-lit roof-line (then maybe the big lollipop!).

In the end, sadly, I think the shirt color will end this. Cool illo, and I'm actually a green fan. But the dark shade is just too much contrast, out of context. If that makes sense.

I think, the second. Not that they don't work well, but the brown ink may not show up well against the red blank. I do like the illo, though - especially the lower building's raised-brow expression.

I hope it doesn't. I love this shade of green, and would really love a shirt of this color! I love this design as well .

Super sweet, I love your take on the theme, best of all it will read well from across a room, something I can't say for 70% of Woot shirts.

Well personally I don't care how this art was made, because I think its beautiful! And unlike most of the designs I see on here, its actually wearable.
I really like the feel of this shirt since I recently moved to the city after growing up in the Adirondack Mountains. I miss the quiet trees.

If only I had a vote to give... good job

No one is here to get rich (no comments, Adder!), and you should stand behind your design - that shadowed maniacal face rocks (though the background elements just don't work - maybe they didn't belong at all - rather, some generic circus tent background...?)!
But - I gotta wonder - this is a City derby. You are our resident graffiti artist. And no urban tagging entry> I got owned by woot!? This is your element, dude - GO!

Bummer, dude. Whyever did you do that? I live near Albany, but not TOO close! I'd never move into the city - couldn't stand it. And if I'd grown up farther north...? IDK, I might yen for excitement, but I think I'd reserve it for weekend trips/vacay.
