Re: Monsterskettie and Planetballs

FOG!!!! Finally! Maybe all the people from the woot-off - who actually buy stuff - are finally getting into the act. There's a lot of good artwork this derby, but not a lot of wearable art, imo.

@tascott - I don't think you have to worry about the work being scaled down. If anything, they might have to scale it up to print it on a shirt.

Yes, it does, very much so. It's the axe and horned helmet combo. For that reason alone, I'd alter the character.

As a traditionalist, I would much prefer that War carry a bigger-than-life Claymore-style weapon. Having said that, I'm not the artist and that's jut my preference.

I like this shirt, hope it wins.

Not with us mere humans, who trample our enemies afoot or ingest them with gusto, but in the epic battle between the spongy sweet goodness of cream laden confections and the earth dwelling ground crawlers. Both resistant to nuclear nefariousness, both nauseating after eating a baker's dozen, they are the final two elements, the post apocalyptic yin and yang. Always fighting, yet needing each other in a poetic slurry of that which is what we have strived to become: rail thin and sickly, or so filled with fat and sugar we have no shape until you put a handkerchief or hat on us.

A toast, to the two great victors of this world!

Cheers, sir. Cheers.

Re: I Bet It's Better There...V2

This shirt reminds me of anime film I saw many years ago, can't come up with the name. It's about a boy who lives in the slums and dreams of getting to orbiting city above. As I recall, it doesn't go well for him...

Cute.

This is the second entry in this derby with Columbus sailing off the edge.

You're probably going to be rejected for the text of the ship name unfortunately.

I really like your Earth representation...cartoonish, clean, and pleasing to the eye. And of course, funny.

I got a fever, and the only prescription...is more pong! (What Christopher Walken should have said in Balls of Fury.)

Re: Unexpected Error

@Popnfrsh, bassanimation, Talesin, l0rdh3nrz - I had toyed with the idea of mixing the 9 tailed fox into this idea as well. But in the end I decided that adding that would be a bit too much and that I should keep the image focused on one joke. Also I figured a giant fire breathing fox would hint at it anyway. It wouldn't need the direct reference and 9 tails is a huge hassle to draw. =P

@nbrosas, bassanimation, DeusExSublymonal, trapical - I really need to read up on this subject. Thanks for all the info everyone.

@MadamAtom - LOL!

@solusumbra - Well I'm crossing my fingers and hoping.

@tabaddon - Man poor web browsers. I haven't had that much trouble with the one I use but I might just be lucky on that end.

@artist42 - LOL! One of the early titles was Burn baby burn!

@DeusExSublymonal - Aw thanks that means a lot to me.

@TobiasAmaranth - I don't think you mentioned it specifically but foxes are a favorite animal for a lot of people. =D

@Jedigreedo - Oh god I hope so too. No way to tell unless it falls out.

@voxnex - Zoom!

@tabaddon - EEEEE! I know.

@loaba - I'm crossing my fingers!

Again thanks so much everyone for the support and the comments. I have no idea if this will place or not (tell some friends to vote if you can, every bit helps). But I'm hoping for the best. There are a lot of strong entries in the fog so I'm sure it'll be interesting finish.

Re: It Only Takes One

I'd cut it down to two rows, remove the box, and keep it on a dark colored shirt. Otherwise I think it's great! (I prefer my statement shirts to only take up the top half of the shirt but that's just me.)

I sketched it out in photoshop to get the basic tonality that I wanted and then took it to illustrator to create the cleaner lines.

I assumed this was a take off of "The Red Balloon" movie from 1956. I think it's ingenious and subtle.

tascott02 wrote:I am new to Woot. I have noticed several entries using halftones. My concern with them is that having them in the artwork can cause problems if the art is scaled down. Smaller dots will not hold up.
I would rather have the halftones defined when outputting the film.

I totally understand your concern. I normally don't use halftones for this very reason. In this particular case, I took a chance because I needed some color variation. I am not as skilled at using halftones as a lot of the great artists here are ^^;. Still sort of working it out.

I saw the WO start last night and wondered what would happen. It usually seems to be fairly calamitous, as you never know what the Woot-Off-ers will like.

As for the scaling of the art, Tascott is right. The image would probably be scaled down for the women's shirts, which would cause some wonkyness in the tones. I have a couple Woots like this, where the men's version is fine, but the women's has a moire pattern from the scaled dots. It's why I dont typically use tones, but I wanted to try it this time to see what effect it would lead to.

Wait. This is Illustrator? Holywowotters.

So cool to see this type of work done in vector. It's my program of choice, but it's a tough horse to wrangle sometimes. The fact that this is vector makes it all the more impressive to me. Looking forward to your placing, Deadfrog!

kinzoku wrote:Yeah I realize Pestilence is the more common name, but I put Conquest since it made more sense visually. But in any case the name shouldn't matter since it's not in the title or the design. o/

Uh, this makes no sense at all. Conquest? By whom? It's the fracking apocalypse, who is supposed to be left to conquer anything? Isn't the apocalypse the end of the world?

And besides, how is pestilence a problem visually? Some elements that fit nicely: pus, sores, boils, blood, wounds, saliva, gangrene. And the list goes on. Pretty easyly expressed (and easy to get for the viewer).

You just lost a vote due to miserable logic.

Submissions have just closed (midday Wednesday, Texas time). But hopefully Woot will let things be and consider this for an HM. :-)
