"Rejected because: I get it...Mushroom Cloud. I like that, and I like the treatment, but it's likely outside our printable area."
I sized it inside 16x20? No matter though, I don't think it would have had much chance of winning either way. It was just my quick t-shirt idea when I saw the theme for the Derby... I just have to try a little harder next time!

the four horsemen are from the bible, people have portrayed them in artwork but, speaking for myself, i was interpreting the characters from the bible, not other established pieces of artwork. so there needs to be no parody, unless you were using the exact same poses from the established piece of artwork that you mentioned, which this one doesnt, this could just be this artists reinterpretation of the four horsemen from the bible.

He could think it's Santa raping the Easter bunny but that doesn't mean whatever crosses his mind needs to be shared. And sure a "team up" is possible since there are 50+ Earths in the DC universe alone; but there is no mistaking Galactus for anyone with that hat, not even the pope.

You bring up a fair point, but even the Bible goes into some details (albeit translated) in regards to each of the Horsemen. I would think for the joke to work, it can't be completely random (there has to be some link to an original.) Having said that, I suppose a fair number of people have no idea that Pestilence rides a white horse, or that Conquest rides a red horse and that Famine rides a black horse. I'm sure lots of people know that Death rides a pale horse...

My point here is, separate yourself from the rest, research the subject and do it up right. Teletubbies, attired as the Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse, is genius.

That's assuming he knows who Galactus is. Superman is a lot more iconic and well known to the general public than Galactus. Even someone who's never touched a comic book knows who Superman is.

This shirt reminds me of Space Balls!!

This entry seems to look, smell and taste like a lot of things. But I suppose if all the things in question are GREAT, then fantastic.

----------------------

Now it's time for a look at a couple of progress images.

This entry was Drakxxx's idea and started with his line art. He sent me an earlier version then did some tweaks and whatnot and sent this.

Asphalt is a necessary color too often because it's DARK but still shows black lines fairly well but I didn't want to use it. (MORE COLORS PLEASE WOOT! Violet perhaps) Navy would have been too dark resulting in a bright MOON and some distorted mess at the bottom *squints eyes* OH, ok, a kid and his dog on a destroyed world. I just did Royal Blue on "Lost Already" and honestly none of the other colors appealed to me. So I went with Cranberry for a sunset look. So I worked up a color concept and got an epic thumbs up from Drakxxx.

As I worked on the real colors, I had a couple of things that I felt could be better. The main thing was the dog was looking to the left as if the moon was hanging above them, not in the distance. Or else was focused on something else, so I changed that. I then just redrew the boy to make him look up more and posed him with his knees pulled in for more of a cold/alone sort of look.

The only other line change is something hardly worth mentioning but was the only other thing I changed which was the skeleton. It's not going to win any awards but I roughed in some changes to make it a bit more realistic maybe. I also scaled it up a bit.

Lastly was the moon which Drakxxx left sketchy so I could do whatever I wanted to with it. Believe me, I tried about a dozen different versions. From this sketched outline, to clean lines, to clouds, to no clouds, to hatch lines, to halftones, to bright, to dark, to solid outline. I probably spent a third of my time just experimenting with the moon. Ultimately this was the look that didn't say "FIX ME" so I went with this. Visible, but not a huge white ball. A touch of realism, a touch of fantasy. I liked it, so that's how I left it.

Thanks as always!

If you resubmit, perhaps you could add some black squares by the top to signify the patches of sky that have already fallen. It would hardly be the same color behind.

And now you get why it's "not just a shirt". It's not that you can't get THIS shirt. It's looking at what's ahead of it and going "whaaaaaa?"

How Pandamonium and Velociraptors can be ahead of this in teh fog iz boggling. Neither of those are even drawn well.

I'm pretty sure No1 iz better known for vegetables as animals and people than for pandas. Has he been entering pandas lately?

It doesn't matter what he's known for though. teh threadless shirt iz older than shirt.woot iz.

As usual, I agree with Adder - it's frustrating when really fantastic designs are kept out of the fog by "lesser" designs. (I'm not necessarily agreeing with his opinion on those designs, although I certainly like last drop more than either). It's one of the reasons why people constantly rail against the not so dynamic duo. But this isn't the time to go into that.

Anyway - I kinda wish that the random rule was "No 4 horsemen references" - there's seven of them out of like 100 non rejected entries. That's a bit much (and a little obvious - I like that people got a little creative with it like the sea horses, but still!)

Also, how is Boots only at 42 votes? If that thing had a different byline it'd be fogged. Fickle voters (or favoritism)
