same thing as hitchhikers with towels...Id like to see more uniqueness. I don't want this to become a weekly rehash.

sharkswithlasers349 wrote:While I understand your point about a giant otter not really fitting with the theme, the bottom line is that whether or not some entries are suitable for the derby, they are interesting shirts. Personally, I love this design, and I'm not going to ignore it as a t-shirt simply because it doesn't have an appropriate "size scale." Looking back at the first cryptozoology derby, the winners were, quite frankly, harshing my mellow. They went well with the theme, but they aren't great shirts.

When you're putting on one of the derby winning shirts, you can either think "Man, this is a really cool shirt!" or "Man, this is an ok shirt. It's not as good as some of the other entries from the derby, but it definitely fit the theme better!"

And that's the bottom line.

The bottom line is the shirt needs to be good AND fit the theme. i am the first person to state good shirts need to win. But so long as this is a contest based on a theme, that theme needs to play a role also. there have been weeks where tees that were great have been axed for minimal text in a non-text derby, and that is fine. That is how it should be. There are always good to great shirts that don't win which fit the theme as well or better, and are way more wearable by a human over the age of 6. So you can certainly go wear a giant otter shirt. I have nothing against otters. But it should not win a cryptozoology derby. There will be at least three strong shirts which will be on theme, whether you'd wear them or not. But so long as woot has a theme, the theme needs to be satisfied, not just paid lip service to.

Yes! Exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of in the pre-derby musings. Very well-done, and pretty. I >sigh< might have to suspend my asphalt boycott if this prints.

I like the character, and the ambiguous body position. It could be interpreted like he's contemplating, he's moping, or just rekindling his owlspirit.

Huh, what happened to this design? I did like the execution of it, even if it was pretty brutal. Of course, we now have a cryptid butchery shirt... Odd.

Re: oh shiny

This is an adorable design!
I was wondering if this is in any way a Decemberists reference? They have one song called Shiny, and another that mentions a will-o-wisp. If not thats cool too, I just thought it might be.

What you mean you don't know him? Let me jar your memory- Large whale, covered in white fur, and tail like a lobster. Nothing? Oh, he has a trunk like an elephant! Oh, well then you need to go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trunko and read up on him.

View him in his hi-res glory here-

Had to resubmit him, noticed i had 10 colors, 4 colors just for his eye.

Comments and Votes greatly appreciated. Criticism reluctantly appreciated. =)

Another collaboration with the amazing SeedUvPain. I had an idea about chupacabras and tacos de chivo (because I'm taco-obsessed), shot Seed an email and he emailed me back with a cool twist on the theme. After a few emails back and forth discussing the finer points of taqueria art and how to visually show the "goat tacos" sign without text, he knocked out a sketch that really cracked me up. I hope you like it!

What's in a name? That which we call a frog by any other name would smell as dead...

Um... I mean, sweet shirt. One of the few in this derby so far that I would love to wear. It's simple, it's cool, and designed well. Hope it goes far. :D
