ThunderThighs wrote:A tip for future entries, don't use special characters in your Derby Title (e.g. " # * ) as it causes the quote code to truncate as you see above.

You might want to pass along an enhancement request to the coding guys to check for all problematic characters in the submission's title and shoot up an error message saying the submission cannot be processed without removing X, Y, and Z. From a former webdev, it just seems like this is a bug that's needlessly existed for way too long. I'm sure there's other ways to fix the problem, but the above solution seems like something that would take very little effort to code and test.

(note: this is assuming that the submission is done over webforms. no idea if this is the case since I have no artistic ability and so have never submitted an entry)

Oragutan Mating Guide! This is so damn hilarious, I don't normally buy multiples and don't think I look good in orange but I'd need at least 2 of these (one for my brother) if it printed, lol

I also have sperm whales and LOVE it!

YAY BOOTSIES!

I will submit it to Woot and see if someone can change it . . . or since I have an overwhelming 7 votes, I could just resub. Mind you, 7 wonderful voters that like a big cookie on a shirt. Thanks guys for the help and support!

This is actually pretty clever. I don't understand why it's off topic. The rules even mention using a musical scale.

Agreed. If this design got rejected so quickly, why was Ramy's allowed to run all the way into contention?

I suppose you could argue that since it has the capability to love that is what makes it a cyborg.

Hmmmm

Not only is it not a cyborg, it's also not a canary! Canaries are yellow, right?

ThunderThighs wrote:I want to remind everyone to keep your comments in this thread focused on the design just as you would any other design by any other designer.

Any personal attacks or regurgitation of past discussions will be deleted, possibly with probation.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, most people who see these such comments are seeing criticism of Ramy for the first time - clearly evident by the abundance of posts saying "I don't understand why all you people are dissing this shirt design! It's the best evarrrr!!"

So really, what you call "regurgitation of past discussions" I would call giving new visitors to these forums the benefit of knowing the full context of Ramy's latest derby submission.

Re: The Cancer

Honestly, this shirt is sick. The simple fact that it is going to get beat by 8 of the shirts in the top 9 (I say 8 because I must say, I do like the clockwork crow). But for a design that actually comes from somewhere, this one is prime. I've gotta say, even my own shirt entry this week came form pretty much nowhere, but thank god for geometry so I didn't go the route of cuteness, because that is honestly really annoying (my entry is the one with all the shapes in and around a circle, its like 69th place with 12 votes or something). And out of all of the shirts in the fog, I can honestly say I would wear this one before them, hell, I'd wear my own before most of them. Also, on a brighter note, I appreciate the creme color, I feel like it helps tie the piece together.

Aw well glad you love them both! I'm not sure which one to take down... the brown has done pretty well, but hasn't caught up to the grey either... decisions decisions!

tgentry wrote:I learned something about caterpillars today: they have a mode of locomotion unlike any other creature. They move their bodies in a wave like motion from back to front, but what actually causes that motion is the caterpillars guts inside it's body are propelled forward. The rest of the body is then pulled along by the guts, causing that wave like motion. Very strange.

Also really cool illustration.

pro...paws on every segment? must be a hymenopteran!

caterpillars are kind of fascinating in chemical ecology terms too - some of them sequester the toxic compounds plants synthesize to try and defend themselves, thus making them poisonous to their predators. I read an article a little bit ago about how tobacco now quickly releases a chemical when tobacco hornworms bite it that attracts insects that in turn eat them!

anyway, really whimsical design. Even though this derby leaves the door open for an inundation of kitties, it looks like the artists are doing an amazing job of making the kitties creative instead of cute. GMV!
