Huzzah for coelocanths! My wish from the pre-derby thread has been granted! Thank you for disproving some of my cynicism.

I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of this design - concept, yes. But there's something oddly goggly about the eyes, especially the right one. And the right arm is so much thicker than the left.
That said, I am warming up to it a bit more with the new placement and the orange tee. Definitely both positive changes.

thanks. the right arm is showing fat flap. kinda like if you picked up a cat neck by the skin.

Re: Complementary

My own concern with this shirt is not the execution, but rather that the elements have been done to death here at Woot. Does no one remember the original Fire Swallower or the many, many other koi/bird shirts they've printed over the years?

It's even been done here previously by Ramy - this shirt strikes me as a simple combination of this and this being passed off as something brand new.

By all means, keep the quality execution of this design - but please, apply it to new ideas we haven't seen before.

Vuisyou wrote:The thumbnail is SICK! I don't like the white outlines on the template (not sure if you meant to do that). Would look great as some sort of logo or something like that and I personally would wear a plain black tee with that logo (a bit smaller and towards the left shoulder would make it perfect!), but it's not gonna fly on Woot!

Hope you turn out to be a great artist and do well here.

Thanks! Yeah I made this in about an hour on a library computer using mostly websites and there was no way for me to get rid of the white outline on the template. I didn't expect to have much of a shot at actually winning, I was more wondering what people thought of it. I think it would make a nice hoodie. Also, toward the left shoulder as you said. :D I appreciate your comment!

Honestly, that's the only qualm I have with ramyb. I think he has a nice style (especially in shirts like these that show off his more Artistic side ["artistic" with a capitol "A" because art is always subjective]), but he tends to repeat ideas so often that it gets tiring. I dunno. I like this shirt a lot; it's quite beautiful and the meaning behind it is pleasant, but I feel like I could find a tee similar to it at most large department stores (or even in woot's archives, as you demonstrated).

If you want to use it, you can. Sometimes I have to fiddle with the colors to get them to match Woot's template colors, but they're pretty much close enough. I think I have Heather Grey on there too.

Anyone's free to use it if they want.

You might want to resubmit anyway, since that doesn't look like a shirt color that Woot sells.

It's cream...I looked up the RGB equivalent of Pantone 482 (which woot said was their cream) and filled the template with that...

Re: The Croctopus Cometh

I feel like this would've worked a lot better with just the single color cream (or white) on the olive shirt. Having the same lineart in 3 different colors makes the image a bit hard to read.

Thanks so much for sharing your template! I often wonder how people do their otterific tee mockups. Every time I try to make my own I flub them all to pieces. I was about ready to plunk down for the professional packs just to save myself from shadow-selection insanity.

Thanks again for sharing some of your tee kung-fu with us!
