Re: Lock'd 'N' Load'd Version 2

This is version 2 of the design odesseyroc colored and we subbed. First I want to say the job Od-roc did on the first submission was frickin' sweetness. But I was wondering if the color pallette was turning people off and there was a comment about the shirt color. Od-roc was super busy with real life job stuff and couldn't recolor for a resub with a number of alterations. So I wanted to recolor it with the design tweaked and resubbed. I hope people dig it. And please feel free to leave comments and if you do like the first submission please continue to support it. This is just a variation for consideration. Here's a link to a 9x20 detailed version

Here's the first submission for comparison and consideration:

Re: Locked and Loaded

On a side note, when I shared the first design on Facebook a number of my friends who are in the comics industry said that a comic needs to be made of these characters. I merely designed them for the derby with no intention of making a comic but who knows there may be one made down the road.

Re: Life Takes Many Forms

I suppose I wanted to play with the idea that it would be hard to discern artificial intelligence from actual life in this 5 color submission. When I saw the baby blue tee, I couldn't get this image out of my head. So here it is. I used illustrator so I don't think the half-tones will be all that hard to print. It may not be witty but I would still rock this shirt.

If this was rejected because it's based on a (generic) toy robot, I wonder why the other design that is based on the exact same robot was not rejected.

That robot doesn't look exactly like the old school robot toy. That specific toy is in fact a "pop culture robot" and is not your design, though the shirt is very nice.

Good luck in the future.

IggySorcha wrote:Agreed, even if it's not intentional, Canti has the same style build and is also the same color scheme. Much too close for legality issues.

seriously? have you even seen flcl? this is canti:

this is mine:

this is a rock-a-billy:

i made a robot with a pompadour, sideburns, a leather jacket, rolled up jeans, and converse, playing a rock-a-billy guitar...and because i put a screen for a head he's too much like canti? canti wasn't the first and i wont be the last to put a screen as a face for a robot. i wanted to show that he was plugged INTO the music and that was what was making him live. so i made his face a monitor so you could see the sound waves he was making and so it would also look like a heart monitor keeping him alive.

so in conclusion, canti is not a rock-a-billy, so they do not have the same style. the only similar build they have is that they have a screen for a face and arms and legs, and lastly canti is red for a portion of the series, he is blue for a majority of it and even so its not like they copyrighted "red color schemed robots" mine is more of an orangy red brown anyway.

Yeah, I like the coloring on the first one much better. This one is way to monochrome and flat.

@Meg, yes it's a special deal I have with the Pantone people. Spiritwhite is 10% above your monitor's safety tolerance so don't leave the dragon on screen too long. :p

Thank you very much! Wanted to add a bit more with the resub and thought the logo would be a sweet additon to the design. Also maybe down the road the skull logo would be sweet as a seperate design for a shirt.
Thanks for the comments
