When color was suggested, I'm pretty sure everyone meant 'a shirt color woot offers'.

sorry, they don't have this lovely shade of lavendar, so this will be rejected.

Honestly the crosshatching is so fine it doesn't feel like "real" crosshatching. To me, halftones aren't pointillism and this isn't hatching.

Squeeze this.

Just a simple artsy design.. atleast vote if you like it. Thanks.

p.s. First entry using a pen pad... my hubby got me one as a surprise.

I think it would be so much more visually interesting if the line color was done in the lavender, instead of having this big lavender oval demarcating the space.

I've actually considered doing this before. Got called into a meeting and was wearing a white undershirt. I have sharpies in the desk drawer...

If it prints I can wear it daily just in case.

Thanks for looking =)

It looks like halftones in the form of a line rather than a dot. Completely misses the spirit of the derby.

The mantis is awesome, but I don't get the boxes? They just seem to be extraneous and distracting...

unfortunately people will go for this instead of original artistry.. not knocking the work.. just imho hatching is much more than this.

Is the use of reference completely outlawed? I changed the tilt of the head, the expression the shape of the eye, added some depth and contour. So NO it's not a "direct copy" It was drawn not traced.

I guess it's up to the judges.

Scrotch wrote:I kind of like this, it reminds me of old zoological drawings, but I can't help but think it would be vastly improved by a different color scheme (maybe white ink on navy, or black ink on cranberry?).

Since I'm giving my unsolicited opinion, a higher placement would be nice too, maybe also scaled down by 10%-20%. ;P

i will check it out, just for you tho

Re: The Pray Mantis and the Window

wow great job on the mantis. but the design would be much better (IMO) without the boxes. maybe a different color too.. im not a big fan of bright colors on black but maybe that's just me. a resub would probably get a vote from me

Re: Thunderbird

I never seen woot unreject something but....

"They didn't have much at all, really, which is why they invented hatching, also known as cross-hatching (we're calling this Derby cross-hatching so 50 people didn't immediately start sketching cracked eggs before reading this far)."

Hatching is okayed in the themes write up (was only called cross-hatching to avoid confusion, right?). My design, as well as many other, use hatching and not cross hatching. Why does this one get picked on? I see hatching throughout the design.

O well, I am sure you have your reasons...

JesseBYAH wrote:Really? I have a cream shirt. It's pretty creamy. Doesn't seem too dark or anything... I think the purple would look awesome printed.

Well, in some ways I agree that "cream" looks like "cream" but I have noticed that the shirt comps on woot make it look like pink, and the two I own make it look more like a very light brown.

I still think this would look amazing on it, just not like the pinkish hue implied by the digital image.

I do not understand why some people attack some shirts for not having cross hatching, but they let others slide. plus no where in the rules does it say it has to be cross hatched, just hatched, actually just one color really.

I don't know. A little rotating and it looks pretty bang on to me. I made yours 50% opaque so we can see the original through it.
