Re: Octopustache

The rules never specified how much hatching a picture should have so I don't understand how this can be off topic and unfortunately they don't seem to explain things clearly

skirochester wrote:very disappointed that I did not meet the requirements this week. Guess it was too tough to turn a pencil drawing like this into a 1-color piece that met the guidelines. Or I just don't know how to do it.

Thanks for all the support. Really got a lot of love on this design and hopefully it'll print somewhere (just not in 1 color).

I would still like to see it print in one color...<3

Re: One Man's Trash ...

Aw man, sorry your submitted artwork didn't work out. I can understand why it didn't, and maybe this is the fairest thing for the rest of the fog, but it is a pity considering what a cool idea this is.

'The Anatomy Lesson' set an interesting precedent of a derby entry that went on to be a daily. I hope this one might get the same consideration. :^)

Re: Wandlight

Thanks lucky! That's why this was my initial choice, yep. I still like this one a lot.

I can see why the HP colors might be preferable though - that's what inspired this after all. Maybe I can do something with this in the whole range of colors sometime. :p

Thye should really revisit their agreement change it to maybe 30 days.

I agree.

Actually I had the same problem. You dont really see the outlined box while working with it in photoshop until you start resizing the photo or after submitting it to woot.

So no worries.

You should also be sure to pay attention to the rules. They change from week to week, but a popular one that is offten in effect is "No text." Since that rule is posted this week, having the artist signature is gonna get this rejected.

Do you have a link to a larger image? I do like your style, and your concepts are interesting. I want to be able to comment intelligently, though. I think I see some areas I could remark on, but...

Re: Bitter Sweet

There is a defunct reservoir adjacent to my office complex, where I frequently walk to stretch, get some air, sanity... A week or so ago, during my walk, I snagged some branches from a bittersweet vine that was devouring some of the local vegetation.
This morning I sat and stared around my cubby, out the window, at the little cheesy glass vase (from the grocery store) I'd plunked the branches into. And I started to sketch between tasks.
This evening I took the scan of the sketch and turned it into a creditable Zen-feeling design. Execution sucks, as always, but I like the image. Hope you do, too.

good on ya. Truth, the idea is to draw the desing with crosshatch, not just erase or distress with a crosshatch brush. Still, nice first sub. Don't be discouraged, and keep subbing!

Re: Froggy 2.0

I think the illo and the color choices are great. But it's still kindof NWF-generic. I'm sure lots of folks love frogs - I know a number who do. But this isn't going to take the derby. Fortunately, there are HMs and ECs later on...

Re: The Explorer

Also, I might add some texture to fill out the whole design - some shading to snow humps, etc. And I just noticed that the shadow on the trees is opposite the shadow of the footprints.
But, this is MEEEEE! I was that kid! Really love the idea, and hope to see more from you.

Re: Snowflake catchers

The execution here is pretty darned clumsy, no offense intended. but the composition, the choice of fine whit elines over navy, the touches like the muffler and the earmuffs.... They sell this far beyond the flaws in anatomy, beak position. Nice!

To tell you the truth, I can't tell a point form a pixel. I have no graphic design background, so I just go with it and hope it works.
Nice sub. I think it would have benefitted from someother elements to provide context - sea floor, sponges, bubbles... But I can imagine you were trying to keep it simple. It's a fine line. Keep trying!

Re: crosshatching 1926 world champion

I think, on the one hand, this is a bit arcane for most folks. And on the other, it really doesn't represent the crosshatch technique.
I think you rock, you know that. But this one is a miss for me.

Re: Clothed in Midnight

Your technique is nice. to make the desing flow better on the shirt, I'd suggest some more curve and flow to the lines for hair. Have the whole thing flow out from the head, then down and back toward the (shirt) left. Fluidity. The straight lines are what's holding this back. Even 'straight' hair flows.

Re: Sparkles The Unicorn

Good heavens! From the title I was expecting to see the snake fighting a unicorn, not a dead unicorn! Nice illo, but I'm not sure folks will be inclined to vote. Not without some more BITCHIN execution. Unicorns are (why?) sacred, so it takes a lot to sell a dead one.

Re: Sanctuary

Tthe pattern fills here just don't meet the requirements of the derby. though not all designs doing wel in the derby are hand-rendered, that was the intent of the derby. Check the entries in the fog. Not that you need to do THAT, but you get the idea.
Keep going!

This really is nice. You all need to keep working.
Go online and download GIMP. It's freeware, so no fees. I use it, and so do a number of folks here. Once you get that, head for the Community and post questions or SOS's. The folks here are GREAT about helping out.
