I am going to put a submission together without the words, and hopefully the drawing will be able to stand in it's own. Do you like the hat? I am thinking about leaving it in ( without the freezy label) and calling the entry "Polar Ice Cap". What do you think?

Whoops, I missed the part where you mentioned the hat. So just the bear, eh? So maybe an entry called "Beary Worried"? Hmmm... Any thoughts?

paigeg wrote:It's not a question of 'acceptable'. It's more, is it artistic, balanced, pleasing to the eye, evocative, emotional, wearable...
And only the Gods know how many other variables.
This is acceptable. Definitley.

well guarsh! ... *sighs* I needed that. I only started drawing again after years of relative inactivity like a week ago. Serious drawings, for the derby.
I'm currently reading the forums that was suggested to me by one of the moderators. It's helping.

Now by acceptable, I mean to ask about the gradient that is created with the simple dot of white over the gray. I don't know the limitations I'm working with. I know gradients are a no go, but is that a color gradient? Printing press can't really blend colors, but a black to white blend might be possible. Let's say if it was converted into halftones maybe? I don't know, I'm new to the process. Not to art. I need to not get frustrated over things such as this.

chumpmagic wrote:Same design as my other entry, but with a better thumbnail thanks to the recommendations in my comments.

You may just want to vote for the other one since it already has a good amount of votes. Or vote for both. Or vote for neither. Eh... do what ever makes you happy

This thumbnail definitely represents the design much better. I'd say it was a good move to resub.

Re: Knight Who Say Nar

Nice drawing. I'm not big on the knighting part of the design but I would go for those narwhals just standing around saying nar.

you are right that puffins don't stand upright and that they have bodies like birds, but if we are going to be concerned with accuracy, I would be more bothered that the puffin is wearing a polar bear suit! ;-)

megsck wrote:on bass' behalf, i think a lot of people saw they couldnt do penguins so they chose to just change the beak of their penguins and call it a puffin. puffins however look nothing like penguins other than they are black and white. they dont stand upright like penguins, they have bodies like a bird, so when you draw a puffin standing upright like a penguin, you are really just drawing a penguin with a weird beak.

Re: Polar Bear licking his chops

The design is cute, but I don't see it as particularly creative or extraordinary. The idea has been done before and this merely adds a tongue sticking out. Frankly, I'm a little confused as to why this is in the fog. This doesn't seem to be woot's style to me.

What better way to be welcomed to the Arctic than to be greeted by a yeti, a lemming, and a narwhal?

Have any of the folks from the Sierra Club wandered over here yet to voice their opinions of the shirts? I'd be interested to know what they think.
I'm sure their opinions and viewpoints of the derby submissions would be a bit different than how the voting typically goes on around here.
I don't know how many of them are wooters, but it would be nice to get a different opinion.

I thought the yeti cryptid is historically from the Himalayan region and not the arctic...?

I love the idea....as a poster. Or a coffee mug. It would be wonderfully fitting for that. But a shirt? It sort of has that iron-on feel to it with the distinct/boxy lines.

Well, the thing about the Yeti, is that it is indigenous to any locale in the world where the human population is low and the chances for myths and legends to abound are high. It enjoys a certain... mystique in knowing that not too much is known about it's civilization and mores. There are Yeti in the Himalayas, yes, but there just might be many in the Arctic as well. ;)

Re: My Little Narwhal

I hear people love narwhals. I also hear people love cute. Now you can have your very own cute narwhal. This one is called "Artic Breeze" after the Artic Refuge Fund. Makes sense if people like Cute and Narwhals these shirts should sell to raise money for the fund.

I really designed this for my daughter who has tons of ponies all over the house with their ratty brightly colored hair. No way you can get a brush through those knots. Good thing the My Little Narwhal doesn't have hair or wear a wig.

If cute and narwhals aren't your thing check out my other design Wild Life Support. The links in my signature.

On what planet that isn't this one will this even come remotely close to printing well?

don't fluff the bunny buddy.
You weren't inspired by this photo or any others close to it to this design. As you said you like bunnies.
Leave it at that.
Its as though you posted the photo as an after thought to make it look like you were always on theme when you did this design as though this bunny was your muse.
Be honest, It wasn't.
You had this design prior to this derby sitting around, maybe tweaked it a bit and then posted it for the derby. Which is fine. But don't make it out more than it is.

As to the design its cute.
Makes no sense, but its cute.
