Very nice design and great characters.
Completely original idea & that's more than 1/2 the battle. Kudos!
Mayhaps vary the width of the stroke for curvy cartoon-esque dimension? Of course, that's how I do it, so maybe I'm just biased. ;D
Good work!

Well, there is the question of whether the artist used gradients or violated the (new-ish) LPI rule ... which I can't tell from this shirt comp, but the close-up of the eye has me wondering.

In the 1840s, arctic expeditions weren't always successful. This shirt shows a stranded ship on "Maybe we shouldn't have joined the navy".

kimos wrote:I love the design. I was thrown off by the splots around the fox. Wish you'd gone for a white shirt.

hmm.. A lot of people like the splots. Going for an ethereal snowy feel. Plus, If it was on a white shirt then not that many people would buy it. White doesn't do well. If it did, I'm a pen and pencil artist by nature and well, I'd do that all the time. As for the gradients, I am wondering if this will be rejected. I'm not sure exactly what qualifies as gradients, and the detail for pencil drawings may be impossible for woot shirts to print. Which will make me sad. I'm not sure how to check the lpi in my drawings to make sure they are up to snuff. If anyway can give me tips so that I don't go to lengths just to make a shirt that barely isn't doable, I would be very grateful. Maybe even a woot staffer, eh?

PS. If it's not acceptable (since it's not going to win right now) just email me.

this shirt wins in the context of designing something related to the Sierra Club in the sense that it kind of conveys a purpose - these are the animals of the Arctic and the environment they live in, don't you want to protect them? Also, it looks like the styles of the artists ^^.

No, most people actually agree with me based off my track record. I vote for 2-3 shirts every derby, sometime 1 or 2 more if there are a lot of good shirts. 9 out of every ten derbies I vote for at least one of the top 3 if not 2 of them (Only hit all 3 twice in the last two years). So, I would say that my opinion is pretty close the the majority of voters.

QUESTION MARK

Mods, where are you when it comes to rejecting the tees that most deserve it? This is so far from being theme-appropriate that it shouldn't have last an hour, especially when so many far, far more on-topic designs have been rejected. Why is it that ramy so often seems to be above the rules? That's not cool.

1.) There are no rabbits in the arctic, and those cannot be hares. So even if you are trying to convey 'the arctic' by drawing something that vaguely suggests snow, the rabbits make that impossible.

2.) A vague drawing of snow does not equal the arctic, anyway, as those above me have said. (Julias are always wise, also.)

3.) It's interesting that the VERY FIRST GOOGLE IMAGE that shows up when you search for 'arctic bunny' (or even 'arctic rabbit' - which is NOT the species in the picture or in your drawing) is the picture claim 'inspired' you.

And before anyone accuses me of being a ramy hater - I'm not, and have voted on and bought multiple designs by him. True, I may dislike the majority of his work and especially his most popular designs, but I don't have any issue with him overall because he's capable of great art at times. But this flamboyant disregard for the topic is simply unacceptable.

Re: Curled Fox (RE-SUB)

Looks cool, but my main concern is how the pencil marks will translate to a print on a t-shirt. It looks like it has way too many values of gray to be able to make the transition. If it does, then great! But I'm afraid Woot won't be able to work with this.
