Re: Saturn Spacegirl And The Sinister Plot Of Sector 6

Yay! GMV!

I can't vouch for anyone else, but I'll vote for multiple entries with similar ideas if I like 'em all and if I think they fit the theme. I probably wouldn't buy more than one of this week's Future Chicks if they all printed, but that's not real likely to happen, and I'd buy any one of them, so I think it's fair.

midgerock wrote:I love the color choice and the design. My only crit is I wish the little viking part of the design was the main design and larger on the tee with dragon/seamonster omitted. Bit other may feel different but its a superb first submission! I hope you the best.

I will say that would let me make him a lot bigger. Thanks so much for the kind words and support!

JesseBYAH wrote:Quite creepy! I like it though. Do you have a close-up? Did you use halftones? It just looks like fine brush strokes, which I like better than halftones Either way, it looks nice. I like the lighting a lot, as well as the use of negative space. GMV!

Thank you very much, happy you like it! And I did use a little bit of halftones for the lighting on the guy, but the rest is brush strokes, which I like better as well. Here is a larger img.

midgerock wrote:When the theme was introduced like a majority of people I had no idea what mid modern art was.

The movement is not widely know in the illustration world. I have taken many art history classes and never learn about this movement till I took an art history class that specialized in architecture. This movement, to my knowledge, was dominated by architecture, interior design and furniture design (do a google image search of mid-century modern or mid-century modern movement and see how many images you have to skim through before you find a painting or graphic design piece). Woot is being out of place with this derby in my opinion. It would have made more sense to have the derby be about art for around 1940-1960.

And its funny that they allow Kevin Dart's art since he probably wasn't even alive during that time. I believe he is currently still a young artist, just beginning to make his footprint in the art world. That would slop him into the remodernism movement.

Sorry, Midg... that two chumpmagic rants in a row

Anyhoo, great work!

Aw nice -thanks emmetcopeland.

jxchen wrote:I like your usage of texture and color in this design. The small decorative curves of the birdcages is a nice touch. Good job with the style.

Thank you - I went through a lot of switching up the colors and trying different textures, so that is great to hear.

Re: Rain Shower

The color usage is nice here, but the way the arms are done is unappealing to me. The jutting stiffness of the left arm detracts from the interesting and delicate lines of the lower limbs of the tree. The right arm coinciding directly with the branch behind it creates an odd visual confusion. The figure's head also appears too small for her body.

Parts of this image are well done, but the parts that are not severely impact the design for me.

Re: Flight of the Unicorns

I really like this. Though I think it would be better just a little smaller on the shirt. Then again, I don't really like designs to take up the entire print area, so that might just be me.

Well. Here I'm taking a que from most everyone here. eyvind earle is my inspiration and this is a little pocket of nature that he had done a similar painting of. I find I like the simple designs and this is a one color piece that I think fits right into the theme.

Yup. It's backwards.

Item i: "When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. When displayed in a window, the flag should be displayed in the same way, with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street."

Re: Natural Balance

I'm a first time submitter but I had the idea and I really wanted to try creating a shirt design for it. I'm just tickled that I made it through the submission process and I don't see the giant REJECTED message across mine!

In case someone's interested, I know it's a little hard to see the leaf design on the horses so here's a link to a bit better detail:

I told myself I'd be happy if I got two votes and hey I got votes!
