It’d be easy, simple, and fast to tell you which Shirt.Woot design moved the most units in 2010. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that shirt is the “best”, does it? If the Oscars worked like that, Revenge of the Sith would have been 2005’s Best Picture. No, questions like this are too important to be left to the grubby, uncultured mob (not you, of course). They must be answered by the cultured, educated elite (that’s you! and us, too!).

So join us in determining the 1st Annual T-List, our awards for Shirt.Woot's best of 2010. Starting January 31, we’ll announce a new category of T-List honorees every day. The awards will include a Fan’s Choice category, determined by a nifty system we’ll explain in a minute, and will culminate in the Shirt of the Year announcement on Friday, February 4. The Shirt of the Year will be determined by a combination of factors, one of which will be the results of the Battle.

The what? The Battle! That’s what we call our addictive head-to-head (or torso-to-torso) clickathon pitting one 2010 Shirt.Woot design against another. You’ll see two designs, you’ll click on the one you like more, and the shirts will move up or down on the Leaderboard according to a chess-style rating system. When midnight dawns on the morning of January 31, we’ll have our winner, and we’ll announce it on the blog that very day.

At last, Shirt.Woot tees will be measured by informed consideration of their true artistic merit, not the fickle finger of the invisible hand! Or maybe Adam Smith is right and it’ll turn out exactly like the sales ranking!

We won’t know until you get on over to the Battle and start voting. There are thousands and thousands of possible matchups, so you can click until you bleed and you’ll never see the same fight twice. Then come back here starting Monday, January 31 to see your picks and ours for the best shirts of 2010. Who will be the next T-List celebrities? Post your predictions below!

ha, same here!

I wonder if the winning designs will be rewarded with a reprint?

If the winners are shirts of which I approve, then I hope that they do.
If the winners are shirts that I dislike, then they really shouldn't bother.
So it is written, so shall it be done.

We're going to continue to play around with ideas for where the 'battle' platform can go after the next two weeks. In part, this is a way for us to get feedback from you all on what you like and don't about the battle itself.

If you have ideas for how the battle might find it's way into the canon of shirt.woot, let us know that too.

I think it'd be neat to use the battle to pick the shirts to be sold during the Second Chance Derby.

Probably a horrible idea. Voters get to fail twice. We should not allow them three chances to get it wrong. At least if woot picks terrible tees, it's a differently selected set of terrible tees.

That said, I'll be interested to see if this ends up doing anything different from the derbies themselves. I have very little faith in anything panning out for the true talent, but there's at least a vague chance via this method.

This looks like a lot of fun... too bad its not working at work... I probably need a new flash player but I don't have the authority to install it I will have to check this out when I get home.... Sounds addictingly fun.

Looks like the Random Shirt is in there- should it be? Feels to me like it would make more sense to leave it out.

It's the question mark shirt sold on April Fools Day. It's fooled pretty much everyone testing the Battle, even though it's well past it's fooling expiration date.

It's the random shirt shirt, so it's actually a design. The actually sold a blurry question mark shirt once... so I guess it makes sense that it's on there....

Damn you, Woot! You just want me to never leave. Eat, sleep, Woot.

Too bad there isn't a third option on the page: NEITHER.

But an interesting idea!

Does anyone else have the same problem I have, where I found a shirt I totally love that, for some strange reason, I never saw until now? And of course, it's reckoned. I'm talking about the McGregor's Garden shirt, personally... but anyone else discover a different new one?

And I'm also addicted to clicking... it's like Hot or Not for wearable art!

Just reload. Put off until tomorrow, that which... something or other, I'll look it up later.

I smell classics coming back. I just wish they could go back further than a year. Too bad for Artist Agreement B.

I can't believe Taco Cat isn't doing better. Good thing I jumped on it when it came out.

I can think of at least a dozen shirts that a blurry question mark is better than.

I think this is a ton of fun, I should do homework but clicking for shirts is so much more fun! Here's to using the data gathered for better shirts, I've been kind of disappointed lately.

Also I hope they do a reprint of the winners, there are some I'm seeing that came out when I was traveling without internet access that I like.

This is a complete waste of my time. (read: I'm completely addicted.) Gotta run... the button needs to be pressed again.

Hey, it's in the 70-somethingth percentile. That's better than I did on the math portion of the ACTs.

Also, this is addictive. click, click, click, click...

So I went through & made clicking until my clicker could click no more. I noticed I was seeing the same shirts over & over, but never saw designs I was actually looking for.

So I refreshed, and wouldn't ya know? An entirely new crop of shirts I'd previously not seen came up.

That seems, like, a glitch or something.

ETA: Did it again, and a bevy of new designs popped up. Prolly ought to be moar randomer.

Today's pants smell like:
Not sure if you should post that? This slightly-nsfw-flowchart will help.

THIS. Also there needs to be one for BOTH.

How am I supposed to pick between Clockwork Crow and Si Turtles?!? They are both AMAZING!

I'd love for the winners to re-print. I'm a poor college student who didn't even have the $10 to buy some shirts that I absolutely LOVED when they came out.

I keep getting the same shirts over and over again... Doesn't seem random enough. I swear there are shirts I've voted on 20 times and others I've voted on only once. And the average seams to be higher than lower.

I am crushed I missed some of these shirts! The Verona Apothecary was INSPIRED. I hope this means a return of some of these!

If you get the same matchup a few times in a row, just refresh your browser. That seems to clear up whatever is causing that.

What are the odds of getting the exact same battle twice in a row?

Not buying any more shirts until they bring back AA.

Fun, although without paying much attention to details, I was expecting more of a March Madness grid, where you pick a shirt to move onto the next round. In its current state, I agree that there should be a neither button.

Also, my shirt of the year straight up choice: Fresh Cake.

Woot!, You really need to come up with a better voting system for the Battle.

Otherwise, you make a fool of both me and you.

Yeah, it's REALLY disturbing how many times I've legitimately voted for that. Or Air Guitar. It makes my skin crawl, but I defy anyone to have made a different choice in those pairings.

When I have a choice on 2 options where the answer is "neither," I just reload. Since the rating considers number of "battles," I figure that works just as well.

But at first glance on the description, I also thought it was going to be a march madness sort of thing.

Fun! I don't get the Leaderboard. Shouldn't there be 365 shirts?
