So I don't want to come off as a whiner, I do really appreciate all the advice as well as the votes I've gotten so far. I also realize that it's Monday, and there's still a bit of road left however I think I've likely stalled at 30+ votes so rather then wait for the post mortem, I'll ask now. What exactly did I do wrong here? Is it the colors that make this less attractive, composition or maybe shirt placement? Do people refuse to wear a design absent gradients, or is it simply that people just prefer bunnies and kitties over bears (Just thought I'd have a fun jab at you). --- Or worse, Is there some political game I'm not playing?

I can't express the frustration I'm feeling lately about this contest especially when I put together something I'd personally wear but that gets panned by the larger community. Again, for those who have voted for this and offered support so far I sincerely thank you and hope you can offer a bit more advice.

My feeling is that it's too "stylized". I really like this design and I think you've done everything right from concept to execution. In my opinion, the audience here prefers generic and safe over style. Outside of a couple of artists, it's hard to predict what's going to get the votes or not.

It's hard to not get frustrated, believe me. I've been submitting pretty consistently for about a year and a half and haven't had anything finish in the fog. The designs I have in there now are the first ones I've had that have lasted in the fog past the weekend. Keep designing stuff that you'd want to wear and at the very least, you'll have something to shop to some of the other tee sites.

Your illustration and style are great, I don't think that's the problem. If I could recommend anything it would be to focus on your subject matter. You have good ideas (I looked through your past shirt entries) and a nice warped sense of humor. The challenge is to channel that into a shirt that people connect with and want to put on their chest. It's not an easy thing to do. I know for every one shirt I printed I did five that were unwearable. A lot of them were decent ideas that just didn't translate to wearable shirts. Not every good idea is a good shirt, and not every good shirt has a good idea.

A while back I did a list of recommendations to new artists that I thought would be helpful, and I think a lot of them still hold true (I've included it in my signature below). Stay positive -- you've got the skills and the sense of humor needed, I think you just have to find that niche where you and the audience meet.

Do you mean halftones? Pantones refers to colors, while halftones refers to using dots to fake gradients.

Odysseyroc has a nice video tutorial up on how he does his halftones. http://www.youtube.com/user/odysseyroc

Here goes: I'm not an artist and I'm pretty new here, but I feel that this design puts the bulk of the picture fairly low, and the shirt seems bottom-heavy. I prefer shirts with most of the buisness on my chest.

Other than that, I couldn't help but vote for your shirt because of the neat concept.

Hmm...Looking at the fog tells me that I know nothing about the world of woot. But, my opinion stands. I figured this design would make it at least in the same screen as the fog, but it standstilled(?) around here.

I disagree. Considering how mindlessly asphalt is usually used, this is a good choice. Asphalt works well against bright colors mingled with dark like this.

Additionally, the darker shirt options would make the stalks nigh invisible, while lighter shirts wouldn't work for a space-themed design like this.
