Re: Karni Rata

This big guy isn't skeered of the rodents .

Based on the rats of the Karni Mata temple. You can read about the legend here. Worshipers often bring milk and treats to the rats that roam freely in the temple.

This is probably a bit cutesy, but as a rodent lover I couldn't help myself ^^;. Ratties are the most amazing little creatures. I would love to visit the Karni Mata temple someday and roll around in the rats! <3

Enjoy!

Wub! +1

It's simpler than your usual cartoon style but still has bags of charm. Great control of layout and colors too.

You have no idea how much trouble the colors gave me >_<;;. I had a billion swatches and different backgrounds, etc. I have trouble with the darker colored shirts, and I have a special hate for cranberry. It seemed fitting in this case though, so I slide my hatred under the rug...for now... ^^

Thanks, SG! It must be wake time over in your area right now! Dam it's 5:30 am here...I will be zombie..

Very pretty design, Ressa. I love the way this design represents the colorfulness displayed during Holi.

Thanks for your advice! I think I will change it and do a resub. =D

My comfort zone is actually pretty wide. I once bought crack in an alley before attending a black tie affair (ok, not really, not really). Thanks, Mix!

Had another idea, though it's not turning out the way I wanted. Couldn't get the flame-petals to actually look flame-like. Oh well. Would definitely love feedback on this one!

You have shamed me. I am so dumb.

fishbiscuit5 wrote:In Urdu and Hindi the word Henna is interchangeable with the word Mehndi. Henna is the plant, not the color. It's actually a very deep orange color in it's purest form. If you apply lemon juice to the henna while it is drying on your hands, it will turn bright orange and the color will not fade for weeks. Personally, I can't stand having Henna on my hands because it is so bright and doesn't wash off. I really like the colorful artistic takes on Henna in this derby. I would rather wear it on a shirt than on my hands! :D

Can't say I'm a fan of the red dots on the white outline of the petals. Maybe you should go with a solid white outline instead?

megadog wrote:well jean-cluade you obviously dont understand spiritgreen's style of creating- there is a great sense of expression in his 'characters' and humour - something you obviously lack

erm and where are your great works of art then?

His great works of art existing or not existing doesn't change that this is:

a) not a great work of art even if it were agreed it was a well-done shirt. It's a generic and easy joke in a not-that-distinctive cartoon style

b) weakly on theme. Expression and humor are not the charge of the week. Designs inspired by India are. A peacock alone is as lazy a choice as an elephant alone, if not moreso since hardly anyone thinks "peacock" when thinking India. Does anyone really know any national birds other than POSSIBLY their own and America's bald eagle, which we shove down everyone else's throat because we're America and that's what we do? How many of us in the states know our own STATE bird? It's incredibly unimportant compared to any number of other things representative of where we are from. The entries in the fog are ludicrously over-elephanted, and there is more to Indian art than just henna, but this really is equivalent to throwing a couple veggies on the shirt and saying "this represents the many vegetarians and vegans who live on the Indian subcontinent." It may be true and it may not get rejected, but it's an incredibly weak connection compared to all the actual artistic directions one could take.

Re: Henna in a Half Shell

It's amazing how far people will go to shove pop culture where it doesn't remotely need to be. No parody, no logical link between the two items, and arguably just "the epic begins" in a different style, which in and of itself was just the TMNT origin story in a different style.

In terms of specific religious figures, I understand the rules, and the reasons for the rules, but I have a T-shirt with Siddhartha sitting under the bhodi OH GOD, THEY'RE WATCHING ME that I bought at Target. Seems strange for a big box retailer to be more edgy than shirt.woot--although maybe it is the Amazon influence.

Alright, so why is Woot's word filter taking out the word t.r.e.e. from "bhodi t.r.e.e." and substituting "OH GOD, THEY'RE WATCHING ME" for t.r.e.e.. T.r.e.e. is indeed a four letter word, but, OK, can someone explain the joke? When did Bhodi T.R.E.E. become salty language?

Lastly, I feel this is barely on topic. Carousels are French in origin. Without the silhouette in the background there would be nothing Indian about this image.

Probably the first thing I've ever agreed with you on. Though I do find it amazing how certain people only ever find fault with well-executed work, and never with sloppy, far less creative, and repetitive designs.

There is a similar flair for the ornate, yes, and the Taj Mahal in the background is decidedly Indian, but the concept on the whole really does feel flat on an on-topic scale, and there's a huge disconnect for me between the background and the foreground. On the one hand, I'm sure it won't be rejected, because far more flagrant offenders this and every week won't be rejected. On the other hand, I've never known woot to spare a talented artist when they can make an example out of them and ignore the worse offenders.

Re: Balance of Nature

Inspired by Indian decorative panels. The design is symmetrical, but each side was drawn seperately to show greater variation of the forms, just like in nature.

I love the design and the creative touch to an already popular piece of art. I don't like it on white and one of the fingers on the lower hand looks kind of funny. But otherwise, fantastic.
