Teehee.

Welcome to woot!

Yes, every shirt continues to be available after its main-page day of sale for at least a week.

There are two ways to find it after the first day of sale.
1. Click on the Reckoning link found in the upper right corner of any shirt.woot page. Look for the shirt you want therein.
2. Go to the very first comment of the comments thread of the shirt you like. In that very first comment (the one by Wootbot), there is a permalink next to the phrase "ongoing sale." Click on that after the end of the first day sale and it'll take you to the shirt's purchase page.

To learn about the Reckoning, please read here. Actually, reading through the whole FAQ would be a really great way to familiarize yourself with the site.

I just did that fingers and hands into a heart thing at the screen for you. I closed one eye and centered it on your username and avatar.

Quick perspective shot here. I don't like this shirt, I think that it is one of the most frustrating things I've witnessed in a long time that this wasn't rejected out of hand. However, I think that my life rocks the hut pretty well right now that the most annoying thing in it is that a shirt I don't like was printed. That aside, I just spent the past few minutes purusing ramyb's archive at shirt.what.

From what I can tell, and I realize that this is debatable, Ramby occasionally attempted artsy shirts or ones that had a bit of flare to them. I'm not saying that they were great, just that it looks like he made attempts at what he thought at an artistic print would look like. Again, we could debate all day long on this, but for the sake of argument, let's say he did try artsy stuff. At some point (again the particular point is debatable) he just started turning out what amounts to Kwaiiporn. This again, at least in my opinion, wasn't too big a deal. I have friends and family to buy gifts for and they like the over-the-top cute stuff.

However, I stopped being not just a low level fan, and genuinely annoyed at Ramyb's entries when they started seeming sloppier and sloppier. The stuff still was exhuding levels of cuteness that would embarass Hello Kitty into blushing, but it more and more seemed ridiculously rushed, as was the case with Awkward Turtle (please, let's not even get into the orginality debate). The problem was that Ramyb was clearly ignoring both elistist snobbery of certain posters and genuine critiques as well.

Flashforward to now. Here we have what is essentially "Imposter" with headphones, or "Imposter 2: Punk Penguin's revenge," and we have what feels like not only a warmed over idea, but sheer laziness. I can't be the only one who noticed that Ramyb didn't even bother posting the requisit "saved =) " that he usualy posts. True he may just be sick of the hate, but ignoring the other artists on here who might have a worthwhile criticism is a bad way to do things. Yes, people all too often use the line "Well such-and-such a person or you or whoever, needs to grow a thicker skin" in order to attempt to justify their hatred--but this doesn't mean that one should ignore polite critiques as well.

Apologies if this comes across too ranty. I'm just a little tired of people saying that if you don't like this shirt and feel that it's a shame it printed you're "an elitist." It's a shame that some have given a bad name to all.

Honestly there's no reason for him to listen to any criticisms because what he does works. Why fix that which isn't broken?

And congrats on the zillionth print Ramy.

NightGhost wrote:I have to disagree on that point. If I say "an amoeba has a cell membrane, just as the cells in my body do," I am not implying that an amoeba is intelligent. I think the OPs intent was that even great artists created similar works, so why criticize a T-shirt artist for doing the same? He was not saying that a T-shirt artist is in the same class as a master painter.

I agree, so I think there was a bit of miscommunication from my end. The point of my post was that there is a significant enough distinction between why those artists did similar work in series and why ramy does similar work to trivialize such a justification entirely.

crevelingma wrote:It's a tee shirt contest. We should all save the posturing for Art History 101.

My post is no more "posturing" than yours is (you're "posturing" as the herald of reason by pointing out the obvious fact I must have missed, that this is a t-shirt contest, in my taking things 'too seriously'). By the qualifications you call my post "posturing", I could easily make an equivalent claim for any post in this thread.

I've deliberately avoided actually getting into any technical details about what's wrong with ramy's draftsmanship. The only reason any art history came up is because the thread seemed to be tacitly accepting the idea that if famous artists created many similar pieces somehow absolved ramy's work of being derivative and uninteresting.

Seriously, like 95% of submissions feel like they are on one of those base colors. Half of my Woot Shirts are on black. I've now told myself that the Tee has to be amazing for me to buy a black shirt here again.

This.

Why shouldn't we take ourselves seriously?

It is fine and good to enjoy oneself. We should do it regularly. But we should also have the ability to be serious when it matters.

You may argue this doesn't matter, but it remains symptomatic of a larger problem. It is a perpetuation of a culture of greed which sees profit as its own reward, but doesn't see any reason why profit should only come where reward is deserved. This design has numerous technical flaws, is demonstrably repetitive, and when analyzed for content, there is none. The style is not distinctly anybody: it is an overused generic trope no different than copying old looney tunes animation and pretending it's your own style. And this completely neglects questions of integrity brought up by history, both in practices elsewhere and respect for the rules and themes here. Yet it wins over better work. In a merit-based world, that would never happen. In stating that people should take themselves less seriously in this case, you are stating that people should not care about merit. That's how kingship worked, and that's how monopolies are built.

Ah, scream the masses, this is what was voted for! Money talks! But all money is saying here is "we don't really care about what we spend money on." This is true in general. My mother spends more time in the junk food aisle while shopping than in produce. The New York Times bestseller list is crammed not with books that authors crafted over years, but with names that throw a new title at their fans every four to six months. Katy Perry exists. When one says "You guys are just whining," they imply that it doesn't matter what effort you put in when you are doing something. It doesn't matter if your work is meaningful to you. What matters is the money. And that is such a debasement of what it means to be a human that we SHOULD take it seriously.

There is a shred of truth. The money does matter. The money matters because I don't want to take my car to a mechanic who I'll need to see regularly. I want to spend what I need to to get it properly checked out and fixed. I don't want to spend $20 on dinner where everything is greasy and flavorless. I would rather spend twice as much on a smaller portion that nevertheless satisfied me more. I would have no pity for a hundred workers without jobs if a Wal-mart ever closed, but all the pity in the world to see a little local drug store with two employees go under. It is true, I do not always get to throw my money at the people who are trying to do what they wish to do on their own honest terms, and make an honest living on their passion and skills, but those are still the people I want to see succeed. Those are the establishments I will seek out if I can, and urge others to. The person who does something just to make money will always find some way to scrounge a dollar from their greed. The people who have a true passion should be the ones allowed to practice it. If two shirts exist to be printed, and one has 1000 votes but no content, no soul, and no worth past the monetary, and another has 400 but you can taste the passion in it, you can feel that this is a piece that matters to the artist, and you like it, in an honest, intelligent, analytical way, that's the one you should commission. If the popular "artist" gives up, they'll find some other way to con people. If the passionate one gives up, you've crushed a man for refusing to play the game of dishonesty. Proud of that? Some people are. And we should take that pride seriously, as the threat to the human spirit that it is. These are people who believe we exist to sell our souls. Whether we believe in souls as literal items or not, it should appall us that that is a praiseworthy stance. And we should take it seriously that we are, as humans, asked to trade our most human qualities for greed.

I'm in favor of seriousness and passion directed towards art, literature, social justice, the environment, one's family, politics, and much more. Also a big fan of humor and lighthearted dialog. I'm guessing a peace gesture of a yellow Walmart smiley face Tee would be out of the question?

Has anyone else received their tracking info, but nothing has changed since 02/28? (and with an "Anticipated Ship Date" of 02/25)?

Tracking numbers are automatically generated in the purchase-to-shipping process. They serve as a place-holder for your item's shipment in addition to actually being a tracking number once shipped. Today is only the third business day since date of sale, and woot can take up to five days to ship an item, so I suggest patience. Your tracking number will/should update within a day or two of having shipped (fedex is weird about these updates, I find).

Thanks for taking your time to reply. This is the earliest that I have ever received a tracking number from woot and was a bit worried that it hadn't been assigned to be delivered, although I don't receive receive most shirt until about 7-8 calendar days!

I'm looking forward to receiving them! As for woot, I'll always be patient.

I kind of agree with a lot of the posts complaining about the shirt, but the sales numbers have it... and it was last weeks best seller:

Cooler Than You
sold 3,376 shirts

Even though this shirt seems totally recycled, people backed THEIR votes by BUYING the shirt.

Good Job Woot!

Mine shows as ready for shipping on Feb 25th. But there is no indication on the fedex site that they've picked it up yet.

Cause for concern?

I totally love this shirt.

It also reminded me greatly of this:

(I'm not meaning anything by that, just to point that out. I just mean it reminded me of it, and stylish penguins are awesome.)

Try teetrade.org, wootswap.com, or the random shirt trade center in the Shirt.Woot forum. You might get lucky and find it there.

I got this one as a random shirt last summer. I get a complement or two on it from strangers almost every time I wear it. I see it's available for sale as a re-print this week. If you're thinking about it -- go for it!!

Umm... I ordered this shirt last week, chipped in the $5 for over-nighting it, and it still hath not shipped.

I love my shirt.woots (I'm wearing Fat Unicorn as I type), but this was to be an Easter present for my child, as her first foray into the world of t-shirt awesomeness, and this is becoming too loaded with anticipation!!!
