Those jerkfaces!! They love to clutch onto my office building, especially around the doorway. Being the giant wuss that I am, I have to chuck stuff at them to make them move so I can go in. X-Q

Please: Are any of you artistic types familiar with the Redwall Series? It's full of woodland creatures and the author, Brian Jacques, just died. What could be a more honorable tribute than a tee with swordfighting stoats and badgers?

I would love to see a well-done squirrelpocalypse. Much more exciting than a bunnypocalypse...

I've heard this too!! They're supposed to be very affectionate. My state allows them (with certain restrictions) and I'd totally get one, only I hear they are big diggers and will claw up your furniture (which sort of makes sense...I mean, they *are* still wild animals).

Depends where you get the skunk. There are domesticated lines that have been bred for companionship. They're much like a cat--they can be box trained, and trained to claw/dig in a cardboard bins.

Domestication was done to have the skunks around farms. They prevent predators, like foxes and coyotes from raiding, even without scent glands.

But, the big concern about having them as a companion pet is how your state handles rabies vaccines. Cat vaccines are effective in skunks, but not all states accept that, so if your pet skunk bites someone, it HAS to be tested...and the test is lethal. :/

Sadly, they don't require that for humans, just animals.

I'm excited for this one... a lot of my fav animals to draw are in the woodlands. I wanted to re-use a design (but change it enough). If I used similar style animals but a whole new composition and color scheme and new elements, is that enough? I don't want to anger the rejectors (or the community).

Thanks for any advice in advance.

aww that is sad! The skunk at the nature center I used to work at was my absolute favorite animal. He always reminded me more of a dog than a cat in his behavior. When you picked him up he would cling to your arms and nuzzle your hand to pet you, and even fall asleep on your lap. Then I found out his fur gave me a rash and I adored Pierre from outside his cage, otherwise I'd consider keeping a skunky companion myself.

Has anyone seen a tee with wolverines drawn up as the kids from Red Dawn?
I know, I know, but I LOVED that movie, and it was the first thing I thought of.
I'll work on it tonight if no one tells me it's out there somewhere...

I was actually thinking of doing some thing along that lines independent of knowing the series. Instead of mice I was thinking more of a stylized bunny warrior riding atop a saddled ragged wolf.

I have pet rats, and they are also pretty destructive if you let them roam about. I don't think there are many pets that won't destroy stuff. It's like the national pastime of the wild kingdom :3. That and eating. :X

bellisperennis wrote:Ah, but as turtles and penguins aren't woodland creatures, no matter how you define "woodland", at least he can't copy-and-paste from previous designs.

Ah yes, but the rare and elusive forest penguin would beg to differ. Eudyptula spica is a crafty little bird, living near lakes and ponds which contain fish and bugs for them to eat. Their brown coat enables them to hide from their predators in the murky depths as well as amongst the trees. This penguin is a noble creature, one which must be respected and treated with caution. Its sharp beak makes it a beautiful, but deadly addition to the woodland ecosystem.

Here's my beaver dam / waterpark idea, roughed out:

I am resisting the urge to call it Big Dam Heroes. (By which I mean, looking for encouragement to call it that. :p)

I'm planning to ink it up with nice, angular, wood grained logs everywhere. Give it a fun, high contrast style. Very chunky.

Do you think this would fly as a 2 color illustration? Or would it be better in full color?

It's a vuvuzela.

huh, I guess they used the same source as me, an archive of copyright-free prints from the 1800s, although my image was drawn using the image as a reference, NOT traced. The other two bats I drew using the first as my example of how they ought to look. Think I ought to change the one that I drew using my source more?

Any thoughts on extinct animals?

I feel like there should be a tribute to the recently extinct Eastern Cougar, which (once upon a time) had a home in the woodlands.

I'm thinking cream shirt with a warm brown and a pale brown. Pretty much what's there ^. I like the simplicity of it, but it might be better liked with greens and blues in there too...
