carol2bs1grl wrote:I just feel that he did a good job in making it look woodcut and he stayed on topic, which is something he is most often accused of not doing. I don't see glaring design errors, like lighting issues or missing shadows.....(of course I should throw in here that I am not an artist, so sometimes I don't see those issues until I see them pointed out in the comments--then I can't unsee them, lol)

I understand that you don't like him, never will, etc, etc. I have been around long enough to hear the stories of what may or may not have gone on at certain places. But just because a few people say that this particular shirt is well-done of him, doesn't mean that there is no other shirt anywhere out there that could have a similar concept. It simply means that....we liked the shirt design. ;)

Thanks for being the one to say it.

Re: ONI

Inspired by Japanese woodblock prints and mythology. The Oni is an ogre or demon massive and destructive usually carrying a huge club or axe overstating its destructive power. Here's a link for a 16x20 jpeg image for your review.

Thanks everyone who supported my designs last week and hope you dig this submission as well.

For some reason I'm liking the pink on black. However I am not your target audience so you may not want to listen to me.

I appreciate the feedback.

As I said, the content of the shirt is a personification of industrialism v. spiritualism.

When I saw the subject was woodblocks I instantly thought of
this well known Ukiyo-e print.

I wished to have a hero character, and as the original inspiration was Japanese, it seemed only a Japanese hero would be appropriate.

If you find offense then there is little else I can say other than the shirt is probably not for you.

Lyssa1029 wrote:I really, really like this, and I agree, I think grids can work on a shirt, but I think what throws me off is the actual shirt being white. It may look better as the light green shirt with a white outline around the edge panel? Just a thought.

That is completely fair. I should've toyed more with different color possibilities. White shirts are kinda stigma'd as it is, hehe.

Thanks for your comments and crits, everyone! <3

I agree completely about a light green shirt. Honestly, I don't wear white t's, and I think the starkness of the grid would be less obtrusive if the shirt was green.

So yeah, if you made it a green shirt with exactly the same design, I'd totally buy it.

*** WEEKLY REMINDER ***

I would like to remind everyone that the idea is to discuss the art, not the artist.

Even critical critiques are fine as long as you explain them. "It sucks" is not a critique.

I think if woot carried the same spring green I used, I'd use that color shirt for everything. <3 I don't tend to like the greens they carry, though. :\ Still, I like your idea.

Re: Imagination Takes Flight

I usually kinda like your cute shirts and do have a few of them, but I always absolutely LOVE it when you do something outside of that, especially when I don't realize that it's you until I read some comment griping about it being you. ^_^

I hope it prints. I love the colors in this one! I'm generally trying to branch out and avoid black/brown/cranberry/navy, but this will be a good exception, I think.

Do you see how the background red gets darker the further down you look? That's what I'm talking about. It wont be like that on the printed shirt, so it shouldn't be there.

Should be rejection worthy.
