You should get the British flag correct, then I'll vote for it. The white diagonals should be unequal widths, like this: http://www.british-flag.org/

Re: The Delicious Truth

Thanks so much to everyone who has enjoyed this design I'm glad you guys like it.

Now to address the concerns that were brought up. I know several people have made arguments in different directions on a couple of these but I thought it would be appropriate to weigh in with my thoughts:

1. The design is definitely only six colors. Both the green and red gummy bears are shaded with halftones using the gummy bear color against the shirt color. The line thickness is significantly larger than the minimum size woot can print, and is the size I use in all my designs with this style of shading and it consistently prints extremely well.

2. The design refers to a generic concept of a specific product, which is gummy bears. There are many brands of them, and no specific names are used in the design. It is sort of the equivalent of doing a "green viscous soda" design, where a type of product is clearly being advertised but no brand names are used and there are many brands that the design could be referring to.

3. I think the product being advertised is extremely clear. I don't think anyone looking at this design doesn't know what the product is. The inclusion of the pronoun (They) in the design with a clear antecedent to the gummy bears makes the connection even more obvious than it would be otherwise. The design features a slogan to a product, just as the rules state. I didn't come up with a fake name for the product because they stated that is not what they wanted in the rules.

I've heard this slogan countless times before, just not in reference to juice. O_o

It's all good ramyb. You do have my vote. I just noticed in all the examples gaven they did name the product. Just giving a constructive comment.

Not my cup of tea, but I don't see that it violates any rules.

I think it would be helped if the typing was hand drawn. That really goes for a lot of the entries this week.

I didn't noticed that until you mentioned it but now it's obvious to me. Adds a nice little flirty element to it. Love this shirt even more!

oh I mean it more than that. I have seen gummi bear picture like that before. Maybe not this exact design but headless gummy bear stood around by his friends in shock.

Re: Books - No Electricity Required

I love the slogan, and in a world of e-readers and the internet, it's nice to know there are people that still agree. It kind of makes me think of http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/3/9/, though that's not at all a criticism of "this has been done." I don't think they're the same at all.

I absolutely adore this shirt, and even if I didn't, I almost think an English Education Major like myself should own it just based on a matter of principle. That being said, the heather is almost always an atrocious color on me, so that makes me kind of sad, because I honestly don't think I would buy it, mostly because I don't know if I can wear it.

Decisions, decisions.

I'll suck up the fact that this is on heather grey (I despise heather grey) simply because this design is awesome. I would definitely buy one.

For a design that seems to be very popular, you'd think more people would be commenting about it.

Looks kinda cheap and the artwork seems to have been put together in a rather sloppy way. When I was reading through the derby description I thought the theme didn't leave much room for cutesy penguins or squirrels... but here they are, colored up as gummy bears.

I'm going to have to wait to resubmit later tonight anyway, so I figured I'd throw up some color schemes. I also fixed the M on the bottom and did some other random tweaks. Someday I'll be ready when the derby starts :P.

I also took a look at my wife's No One Left to Play with shirt and it seems like the blacks on asphalt would be okay. I also found this old post

ramyb wrote:I did a bit of searching on the forums and found some images that people posted of themselves wearing other shirts that have black/dark colors on asphalt
1.2.3
Hope that helps

Anyway, the linkys for the colors:

Asphalt

Baby Blue

Red

Heather

Thanks to everyone for all the great feedback! I think I'm getting better at setting up my files anyway...

Re: TOWELS

i was given these books by my father and fell in love with them immediately. i remember drawing something like this for my father after i read them for the first time, im sure it looked horrible then, but this derby gave me a chance to re draw it, so i'll dedicate this one to my dad.

i wanted it to look like a book cover, and i went with an r. crumb kinda drawing because it reminded me of the illustrations on the books.

Check the LARGER version.

I guess that is my bad then. The derby description make an effort to be silly; it is hard to take it seriously which is why I go by the rules more. And the "Green Vicious Soda" would be a "made-up" product in my book, so it seems like it contradicts the rules a bit in my opinion.... by no means is that your fault though. Just explaining why I didn't consider that part. I get it now; you can use specific, branded products, but not the specific, branded product's name.
