Good colors. The black will be very subtle on asphalt but it might work well because of the flowers in her hair.
Re: Mexico gave you Chocolate, Your Welcome!
What about my welcome?
I'm really taken with this design! I had never heard that fable before and i love it, but i do agree there needs to be some jewel tones to do a hummingbird justice.
I love this just how it is, black and white. Simple but very eye-catching.

I want this shirt too! :/ It's amazing.

+1. Cutness overload!

Re: One, Two, Three...
These look like specimen cups
Re: EL LUNCHADOR
I would totally wear this shirt. It is so funny!
You did a great job of building the patterns into the bird's shapes and textures. It's that mark making that ties the shirt design to the Mexican theme as much as the native bird.
Re: Lady of the Dead
Re: Calavera Mine (Día de los Muertos)
Super cool, my friend. :D
I don't think it's the intent, but this looks a bit like a "fat, lazy Mexican" joke.
Re: Guadalupe Hidalgo
Great draw and concept! (o;
Re: Frida Y Diego
GO, DIEGO [and FRIEDA], GO! Get back into the fog.
Re: The Three Amigos
Any particular reason they are chips? I am just wondering if I am missing something important. I have watched the three amigos roughly 300 times - but it has been almost 3 months since the last time so maybe there are chips in there somewhere?
Re: Aztecish V.2
Very nice design! I wish this were higher in the rankings. Would very much like one.

Re: The Usual Suspects
Very nice. gmv
epicfal wrote:I second that, especially since the placement seems like it would be, uh, awkward on us lady-types. But if it was just Frida, I'd definitely want one.
Just made a v.2 thank you for the suggestions.

That was my first thought, too: "Gorgeous!"
Re: The Golden Eagle
Simple designs are just as nice as intricate ones. You got my vote

paigeg wrote:Are you watching the same movie I am [TNT Saturday 8-11 EDT]? Mmm. Synchronicity. Not sure that puts it on-theme, though, without a better tie to the Olmecs.
Actually, I thought a LOT about this before committing it to the derby. These carvings are huge, and they didn't just make them for everyone. With as little as we do know about the Olmecs, essentially just their ruins and these giant heads and a few pieces of jewelry, I'm skeptical that we really know what the giant heads were about.
I guess that you had to be kind of a big shot (rim shot!) to get a giant head made of you- a general, a hero, someone a bit silly, maybe a politician. The scientists think they were kings. The lunatics think they were astronauts . Whoever they were, I think you had to be some kind of celebrity to get a giant head carved of you.
so, yeah, I think it says something about the topic. Maybe not so simple 'Mexican' as tacos with shiny eyes, but a real, actually serious attempt at a comment on the culture of the region.
Re: Fiery Aztec Spirit Bird
would have liked this a lot more if the flames were left out B^( to me they just dont fit the design
Simply beautiful! Hope this prints!
Re: Ay Chihuahua!
Um, Boots, Kevlar wanted me to tell you that it's him and not you. He thinks you're really cool and beautiful and talented and great, but he's just not ready for real commitment. He'd tell you himself, but he's real upset and taking some strong medication.
jhgalvas wrote:I love the reflection in the water. It makes the shirt awesome!
That's actually the one element that turns me off to the design. The reflection isn't correct for beams from a distant sun...instead, the undistorted reflection makes the sun look like it is resting on the edge of the water. It bugs me.
Re: Cupcake Carrier
To me, it always looked like a giant cupcake anyway.
Re: Tequila Sunrise

still looks the same,
6 colors on navy. I was actually trying to do a different color scheme from my other entry, but anything else looked wrong! And again, would love feedback. Thanks!
edit: I tried showing the smaller placement that would be for womens shirts which should avoid large agave targets (though I'm sure my husband would say that would be AWESOME), but overall it would be larger on the mens shirts.
Re: For the Ancestors
It's unusual! I like it!
Love it! Print this please!
Nice take on Aztec-style art. Simple yet complex.
Beautiful. You did a really nice job w/ the interwoven patterns. I like the colors of the art, I don't know that I like it on that color shirt...brown might be cool w/ lighter brown branches. I still love it though.
Re: seriously large Olmec head
it looks like the "Joker" from Batman, cool!
aswati wrote:+1. Excellent colour combination! The squares on the right hand side look perfect. The textures look great too. The waves on their own look good. However, there is something about the inverted-trapezoid (that the waves form)that has something..misplaced, I guess. Maybe keep both sides of the wave formation consistent in pattern/have only one border of waves??
Thanks! Yeah, I struggled with the wave, initially I had it much smaller, but that also looked weird.
blk909 wrote:I would love it without the wave thing. Just the side design.
I think I should have just given up on the wave part...but it looked so cool in my head! Ah well, something to work on at some point.

Re: Barely Legal
I'm confused... On the left is Roger from American Dad. On the right is ET. Who's in the middle? How is this mexican?
