ochopika wrote:I know this idea is from that old movie, but its also funny that it is the opposite of the "forbidden future" shirt. It might be pop-culture though. Hopefully it can stay. +1

Yeah... I hope it makes it past the pop culture thing too. I thinks it fells into classic and iconic territory rather nicely.

Hey... how'd that garfield spoof up at the top make it past the pop culture thing? I mean.. the cat is orange and has garfield stripes and everything.

Re: Bird Prom

I love this concept! It makes perfect sense! It would be even better if there was more indications that the "pretty" bird is a guy.

On another note, I don't get the whole prom/golden arches thing either. Kids...

Ha ha, thanks. I tried a few different poses for this, but I liked this one best. The idea, as I see it, anyways, is that the orca jumped out of the water and onto the ice a little in order to get a penguin, and then up from below sprang the mechapenguin, who slapped him upside the head to move him away from the lil' penguins and now is about to come down hard with its right (and possibly with a laser blast, too).

This is lacking the violent, direct BOOM of T.K.O., but I felt kind of bad for the killer whale.

Anyways, I'm not sure why they don't seem unified. I even drew them together as one picture. I honestly am not bothered by it or it anything, but I really need to step away from designs for a week or so to get a fresh vantage sometimes.

Regardless, thanks for the comments and votes, everyone.

DivineAna wrote:It's lovely, but I think you should start spinning your story now about how it's related to this week's theme. Also, I'm not sure about this, but it might be outside Woot's printable area. You may want to call it a loss and submit it over at DBH, where I think it stands a better chance.

Seems to be a reverse of the sky, earth and sea. There's a whale in the daytime sky, which is below the earth. The buildings are above the sky and floating in front of an earthy/nighttime background.

It is definitely less literal and more abstract than most woot shirts, so I agree that it would be more successful at DBH and certainly Threadless as well.

It doesn't look to be outside the print area, though it is right up to the line...maybe too close. That's another reason why it would be better at one of those sites that can do oversize prints. I think it would look even better if it covered the whole shirt.

kuraifuyu wrote:Where do you guys see all these older shirts?

I love this shirt!! :D

We see these at the very awesome site known as www.shirtwhat.com

It has all the woot shirts ever printed linked there and it is handy dandy resource for young wooter and old wooter alike. There are many options on how to look up an older shirt and browse not only derby history, but individual artist woot portfolios, and derby entries, not to mention a host of other neat little features that are there.

Check it out. =)

Oh, and know worries on not knowing that there was a similar idea out there. I'm often surprised at the number of similar ideas out there of designs that would never have crossed my mind. So far it is still up, so that might mean that woot is okay with it and that it is different enough for them.

Re: It's Hippo To Be Square

I don't really get what the role reversal is here.

What's the common relationship between hippos and rhinos that is being reversed?

Or is it the relationship between birds and hippos that is being reversed? (Birds usually wear hippos on their noses but now look a hippo wearing a bird... um, no.)

To me, a role reversal would be a hippo picking out bugs/scraps from a birds feathers and beak. This, however, doesn't fit the theme IMO.
