The remaining entry in context is entitled The O-riginal!. The other party's entry is noted as rejected/removed on shirt.what; The questioning started 6 minutes after that submission.

Yeah, grab some popcorn. The stuff that goes on is like a soap opera. For a summary, ask Adder.

You can filter in Google spreadsheets. Click on the little filter icon (last one on the right), select the column and indicate the sort order.

Well, the thing is, I just append to the file, so there's several weeks of reckoning stats on it now. So I can't do the one-click sorting anymore.

It's working well enough at this stage. It was really more of a little whine, that's all.

Select the block of rows to be sorted, right click. Select 'Sort'.

Staff

Happy Monday, everybody! We've got a brand new Numero Uno shirt for you to judge, and a couple of noobs have slipped into the Top 20. Will they survive the week? Maybe, but we've got more pressing matters to attend to, because three noobs in the Top 20 means three old timers on their way out the door. Check out the Reckoning page today because you've only got until midnight to pick up your favorite Danger Zone designs! After that, they're gone forever.

any thread that I can catch up on what happened with the design?

I didn't read everything but it seemed that:

- Ramy subbed an onion design which turned out to be similar to one Walmazan had on Threadless a year ago

- Walmazan then re-subbed that design here when people encouraged him to emphasize ownership of the idea

- Then it turned out that another onion bullying a brocolli design had been subbed to Threadless before either of them

- Drama ensued in which blame or coincidence was attributed based on who likes who

- Ramy removed his design to end the arguments

My thoughts: People tend to jump to conclusions that fit what they already assume about people.

Coincidences happen when you're working with very simple ideas and cutesey anthropomorphic stuff. It's happened to me. I've finished designs that have turned out to be very similar to old Threadless shirts that I've never seen before (and so I've not subbed them). When artists work with very simple ideas they bump into each other a lot. Considering the thousands upon thousands of shirt designs that are submitted, it's not surprising.

Comedians have the exact same problems with the origins of jokes. Fist fights happen because everyone is claiming ownership of an obvious idea that anyone could, and did, think of.

I doubt Walmazan ever saw the original design. I doubt 'supervillain' Ramy decided that copying a beloved Wooter's work would be an awesome and profitable idea.

The internet. Drama first. Thinking later.

... and that last aspect is what's swaying some of us to believe one side versus another.

There was, and still is, a lot of guilt-by-association with another artist that was very popular here before. When lawyers had to be involved, you know it's bad. Long story short, she was caught with a design that was stolen from another artist and ultimately banned.

More quantifiable is the reason why I started documenting the sales numbers for the reckoning. Week after week, designs from those two artists in had a "habit" of jumping out of the danger zone at the last possible minute; sometimes, even past the last minute. Even the WootBot cited such actions before. The sales pattern throughout the week never supported such last minute activity ... so what other reasoning is there behind it, beyond gaming the system so a particular design has another week to sell, and ultimately, profit from? While the bug that was being exploited has since been plugged, the fact that it was done for such a long time when others artists did not resort to doing such says something about an individual's character.

Along with the coincidental aspects of the derby entry in context, those are the deciding factors on my end. Now am I still jumping to conclusions? Yeah. But until I see more substantial evidence to prove otherwise, I stand where I stand.

Despite my comments, I still recommend you do your own homework and then decide for yourself.

Reputation is the key here, sometimes ideas get repeated by different artists and there is no malice involved and it doesn't turn into a huge drama stinkfest on the boards.

The drama stinkfest happens to Ramyb because this issue comes up over and over and over again and people get sick of it. And it's not just from his longtime close association with a prosecuted and banned thief, his own work is often very very derivative and people can easily find the uncannily similar "inspiration".

Just so many different shenanigans over the years damage his reputation to the point that people won't believe his innocence even if he really was.
