Re: Which School? Resubmission

Why resubmit?
My first shirt composition was blurry. I'm still learning how to properly reduce the size for the composition piece. I hope this is a better representation of the difficulties in choosing a school - realism, impressionism or expressionism.

Thanks for the encouragement. I was able to clean it up some and resubmit it.

endangeredomega wrote:I'm missing the "No Star Wars" rule already.

I love Star Wars as much as the next obsessive geek-boy (as my toy collection will attest), but I guess I'm something of a purist. I've got nothing against a good Star Wars reference, but at least make it a solid, clever, marginally thought-out reference, rather than just tacking on a Lucas character to try and make a quick buck off of someone else's brain-child.

(And no, this isn't a Ramyb bashing comment ... there are plenty of artists guilty of the same thing, imho.)

Much agreed on both points.

twikken wrote:umm....spellcheck?

Nope not a huge user of spell check. Sort of surprised no one said anything earlier about me leaving the E out of Mathematics. But that’s a flaw I can live with. It doesn’t effect the design any at least. In the odd chance this actually printed maybe they would be kind enough to fix my typo thanks for pointing it out however I will keep it in mind next time to double check my spelling.

Looks like those new text books will have to wait till next year. The school board went and blew the budget on a Bus-Bot! Oh well, who's complaining? Nobody will be late for the bus again! (Well, the driver might be complaining. Robot, schmobot. He STILL has to haul around a bus load of hyper-active screaming kids.)

Confirmed. I freelance for companies that make 'em. And I feel sorry for the kids, 'cause the things weigh a bloody ton.

Shame on all of you! The question of whether or not the text and/or symbols in this shirt are allowable has been satisfactorily resolved by the moderators. Stop picking fights and being childish and be grateful that such an intelligently designed shirt with great artwork made it into the derby.

ganador wrote:I want to start by saying that I love the shirt. However, this along with a couple other shirts seem like they are dangerously close to violating copyright. Shirt's that have been rejected for copyright violation seem arbitrarily chosen. Does anyone know what the Woot standard is? I wouldn't classify this shirt as parody.

This is parody because in Peanuts the adult characters are never shown, and showing one playing the trombone (referencing the unintelligible noise they make in the cartoon) is clearly self-mockery. Plus they are just dark outlines of the characters and not detailed drawings. On Rglee's "Night School" Batman's recognizable outline is shown in a completely absurd scene, sitting in a school desk next to the Moon, the Aurora, a giant moth, a star.. do you see the parody here?

I'm guessing that the rejected entry you are upset about is Catbus right? That one has no parody, it's just a nearly identical drawing of a well known Japanese character doing what it always does, ferrying children around. The fact that he's sad instead of grinning isn't really parody enough.
