Open concept?

Morning all.

A big thank you to all our veterans on this special day.

And happy 11/11/11 day too!

Busy morning. Had 3 guys here:

Granite top template guy

Exterminator

AC/Furnace guy.
This one was unexpected. I had been smelling a burning smell coming out of the vents but I hadn't turned on furnace yet. Was running fans to keep air moving. Called him at 9 and he was here at 9:15! Motor is shot. It was probably catching fire which is why I smelled it. He said they're self-contained and put themselves out usually but YIKES! He's off to get me a new motor now. Kiss more money goodbye.

I'm more and more thinking that apartment living is the way to go.

Should we warn the other mods? I had a burning smell when the dishwasher died.

In an apt things go wrong and nobody comes to fix it.

Nothing's on fire yet here, although I am considering the purchase of some flameless pillar candles. I like candles but I have a very young and rambunctious cat, see.

Looking forward to meeting a friend I haven't seen in ages after work to catch up, so a good day so far.

I'm just hanging out, really.

If you do your research, you can get in a good apartment that will do the maintenance in a reasonable time... at no cost to you.

That is true.
My brother in law payed the same in New Orleans for his apt as we did in Queens.

Except:
We were in a working class neighborhood
He was in the Garden District one of the nicest areas of the city

We had an 75 minute commute
He walked to law school

We had free parking
He had free parking, and a pool in the complex.

We are still waiting for the new toilet seat we requested in 1979
His maintenance men were there all the time.

Hubby did all our maintenance. We viewed it as a way to learn and not ruin something we owned.
We gave them a week on the toilet seat, then got a new one ourselves.

But... we had a ton of fun in that apt. Parties, loud music....it was our college experience (we all lived home for college, with parents, grandparents and neighbors watching every move)

I don't have to move, The world moves here. Might not continue to, but it does now.

The world is small.
Many years ago there was a plague in some little town in India. Lots of worry that the virus would spread. On the news every night.
The kid sitting next to Daughter in school, had an older brother in that town.
Her dad was determined to get that kid out of India and to the USA.
So, small world.

Well between exterminator and blower, it was a $500 morning. Why does stuff always break right after you've made a major purchase?

Dishwasher coming tomorrow.
Hubby wants to install it.
If he didn't we would have to wait until next week and //gasp// I would have to buy a sink drainer and dish drainer thing. How do I not have one?
Corner sink, it doesn't fit right. Guess I threw it away.

I put in our dishwasher last spring. Other than it being a tight fit, and I had to customize the pipes for the extra distance to the water hookups, it was easy. I'm sure hubby will do fine.

Thank you GMan for all your service!

Can I come too? It looks like fun!

We have to be in Asheville at 8am tomorrow to pick up stuff for the Eastern Star.

Took the VW to Wally World to have the oil changed. They checked to see if they had the oil filter before they started. Drained the oil and uh oh, didn't have a filter. Filled it back up with fresh oil and didn't charge me. They even went to a parts store looking for a filter. We are going to have to order one. No wonder the previous owner changed his own oil. The lube guy was so wigged out about it that he didn't charge me for the windshield wipers he had put on.

edit: Cataract surgery 12/8.

Bread rising, it's late getting started, but it'll be fresh for tomorrow. going to turn some into diner rolls.

Trying to decide if I should work on the walls, or relax for the evening, don't feel like working on work stuff.

Funeral today was really nice, btw. Sat with my parents and aunts and uncles. They opted to drive home early instead of going to the graveside or I would have gone to that as well.

I just loaded this, and Ver1 looked over my shoulder and said, "why are those so funny? They look like chairs."
So I told her they are supposed to be turkeys, and she said, "Then why do they look like chairs?"

Too bad we can't make them (milk), or we could have turkey chair cookies
