The mouse one is also mine - I tried filling in the shine on the jar but it looked a little off I think - but thanks for the suggestion, and so glad you like my style!:D

I also added a yellow teakettle - do you prefer the blue or yellow?

Blue most definitely.

I wonder, did you fill it in as a solid, or did you try a marker-type sketchiness thing? (Not explaining myself well. Sowwy.)

My Colors: 6 Black, 9 Asphalt, 6 Cranberry, 4 Royal Blue, 9 Navy, 3 Silver, 5 Grass, 2 Orange, 2 Kelly Green, 7 Brown, 1 White, 2 Lemon, 6 Baby Blue, 2 Cream, 2 Heather Gray, 4 Olive, 1 Pink

Thanks xxchange. I'm not totally sure I understand your question, but as to the coloring, I filled in the teakettle as a solid, and then did the shadowy color with a paintbrush and eraser tool. Not sure if I am answering the right question

Yeah, that's what I was asking. I was thinking that perhaps it might looked better filled in with this sort of style:

One comment - I'm guessing the sausages at the bottom are helping for balance, but they look a little strange. You may want to remove them, or maybe add some detail or something... the whole design is great, but something looks a little off/unmatching in that corner. Or maybe instead of them, you could prop up the toast with a little muffin?

Here is an updated version

I kind of liked the precarious nature of the sausages in the bottom corner... I may try to revisit it before I submit

I prefer the blue as well. If you wanted a different color in there, I might do red or green. Yellow is a little too jarring.

I think it's okay to show just the cooking process or kitchen implements or chefs. It's more about being inspired by the kitchen concept, not literally showing the four walls of a kitchen.

Right? @_@'

I don't see the animal crackers fitting the theme, and I don't know how the other two would look. Especially with 'really detailed... picures of food'. Tough job with six colors.

Pretzels are easy to make at home, in a kitchen.

For the animal crackers, I was thinking the kitchen = big top. Plates for rings, kitchen towel for the tent, etc. I suspect the food pRon would be the biggest challenge, but I've seen work here of a similar level.

Meh.

Based on the entries I see so far, one would hope that Woot would include Link along with Mario when they want to not outright ban video games from future Derbies.

I think a video game ban needs to happen.

The derby has been open for 20 minutes, and there are like 8 Link entries.

Edit: great minds, eh ChaosDoctor?

Agreed! It was a relief to have a more open topic, wearable ideas flowed better than the past few derbies. Could have done without the video games though!;)

To anyone interested who wants to throw in their preference... still having trouble deciding on the shirt color for this one...
Royal blue, red, brown, baby blue.
Thanks!

I still don't get the reference (Homestuck?), but I shall smile and nod and hope it's not meant to imply that I was being horribly obnoxious with the horn-tooting.

What I wouldn't give for just one derby to ban both pop culture AND animals. Crazy, I know.

I love Star Trek and I love food, I even love the drawing, but why is Picard hawking pastries? Why is Darth Vader flipping eggs? Why is there a cat making bread? Why is there a bowl full of Super Mario power ups? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Am I thinking too hard?

It's not enthusiasm, it's trying to capitalize on the release of something popular. It's trying to recreate what bass did with Portal.

Most of all, it's sad and disappointing.

It also excludes a lot of people. Hate to say it, but I don't play video games. Last video game I thought was worthwhile was Asteroids. So, all the Link references are completely unappealing to me. I wouldn't even buy one for my BFF who is very into Zelda, since I don't know enough to know if one is a 'good' play on the game or not.

I was wondering this as well...So far, based on shirt.what, no shirt has been rejected; if anything, they've been removed.

The cat is making bread because cats knead, and you knead bread. It's a logical deduction to me. Even Darth Vader makes a bit of sense as he's a parent, and parents often cook for their children. The Mario breakfast made me chuckle because breakfast IS essentially a power-up for the average person.

I'm just saying most of those aren't just shameless "LET ME ADD THIS REFERENCE FOR VOTES" They have a clear thought process behind them.

there absolutely have to be a BAN on videogames characters or any existing icons overall. Pictures are not allowed so we can consider videogame icons as pictures too because they were designed and thought through by other people. Using these characters is cheap and very unoriginal. But most of the public will vote for those entries because they seem so familiar. I am all 100% for originality when it comes to this kind of contest. Artists and designers should come up with their own and be rewarded for that. Otherwise, seeing how many entries with unoriginal characters get a lot of votes may encourage the artists to become less and less original which is a big no-no
