Here's an idea for someone who can actually draw: I want to do a shirt with all the super-poisonous animals/bugs in Australia, but with cute faces. They'd look like like "we love you! Come hug us!" then BAM! DEATH! Maybe with a skull and crossbone thrown in over an outline of Australia. Please help yourself to this idea, as I ride the short bus to my drawing class

I wonder if the halftone needs to be all over the croc when you have inks to spare? I get the feeling you're mimicing newsprint and that's quite a cool approach, but some folks might find it distracting.

Thanks!
At this size, it's making a really distracting pattern. Click on it to see it on flickr, where the larger sizes reveal it to be less so.
Also this is six colors. I never spare inks if I can help it.

Possibly - which was a primary reason for leaving it out.

I may do this as a daily instead because I'm not sure if it is on-topic enough for this derby. I know there are no beavers in the wild in Australia, so its the platypus that is the focus here (there are ducks in Australia, though). Is it on topic enough or should I save it?

this idea has been done on here before - I don't remember if it printed, but I think so? Like, some derby where two artists had a similar idea and one printed, the other didn't. I think one of said artists was BassAnimation, I'm sure either she or someone else can come in and fill the details :P

tl;dr it's been done before

EDIT: Yeah, patrickspens printed and Bass was in the fog.

Koalas - so loved, so cuddly and cute... so irritable. They just want to be left alone!

I can't design crap but here's an idea for you: grab a circular sponge, squeeze it in the middle and some liquid squirts out on the bottom of the right-hand side... Australia!

Is there a whale shark in there somewhere?

I'll get this either way

Australians hate them. They're considered pests, sort of like raccoons.

There is one - it is not sized proportionally (obviously), but if you look in the NE portion of the island, just to the NE of the butterflyfish, I included a whale shark (it's mouth/snout is broader).

I would like this so much better if the kangaroo had a happy expression so they would look like two unlikely friends enjoying playtime together.

@missmelis - hehe, you noticed, thanks!

@batgirl - yay, nice to hear!

@juliaL19 - The crowd is more meant to be tourists, who seem to love 'em... there was always large crowds around the koalas at animal parks cooing about their cuteness, and lines of people waiting for a turn to hold some very grumpy and reluctant koalas!

Vote!

They really should keep the "no pop-culture" rule permanent. Also, I'd really like a "no chibi/kawaii/cute" rule, just to test the versatility of some of the more 1 dimensional designers.

I looked at some fogs 100 derbies back, and its simply night & day difference.
Where did all those artists go?

Australia has some awesome native bird species.
Probably won't have this inked and colored up until late tonight.

Put a bottle of it, with just the pattern/color and make the vegemite dark--it's much darker than peanut butter, closer to black than tan.

Also, a good shark shirt would be most appreciated. I'm still disappointed Spiritgreen's "The Physical Impossibility of Death" never got printed.

+1. I am starting to lose interest in shirt.woot because I really do not care to buy any cute animal/food shirts, and that seems to be what the vast majority of derby entries are. The ones that are less cartoon-like are always way better IMO.
