Re: Castle on a Cloud

I remember singing a song with this title in high school choir. This shirt brings back memories from that fact and because of that (and that it's really nice!) I'd buy it :D

I LOVE THIS! And I'm glad you put it on white! There haven't been many white shirts on woot and I'm definitely lacking on white shirts. Great color choices as well! It gives off a very happy tone yet calm at the same time.

Re: Coffee on Cream

This is my first entry that was done almost completely in real media. I ground up some coffee really fine using a mortar and pestle and mixed in some water to make my water colors. I painted the background, and then I used a wet brush and lifted off the color to make the steam and the cup. After the the piece dried, I scanned it, did some digital clean up, and converted it to halftones.

Comments and suggestions are always appreciated

I really like how striking the eye is in the black and red silhouette.

Re: Spirit of the Samurai

This shirt is great! I'm sorry it's not getting more traction. The design and the placement are just spot on.

Is there are reason you didn't use several shades of gray and red, so you could cut down on the number of halftones?

The reason I don't have several colors is because I painted all of the art on paper with black watercolor paint, then scanned it afterwards and changed the greyish sun to red in photoshop. I kind of shot myself in the foot as far as layers go by choosing to do it the old fashioned way. Also, my experience with halftones is mediocre at best.
I really appreciate the encouragement and advice.

I knew this was yours before I even looked to see who created it. Mike gets credit for this one.

Because you did you original in black and white it really lends itself well to breaking down into a multi-color halftone. I've been playing around with the original image from your blog post to see what kind of improvement could be had going to a 3 color halftone. Here are the results:

Re: AVALANCHE!

AVALANCHE!!!!!!

Four Colors on White. Hope you enjoy the design and please vote.

Here's the process:

1. Create a file the same size as the image you are halftoning.
2. Create 5 layers:
2.a. white, Gray w/ Value = 75, Gray w/ Value = 50, Gray w/ Value = 25, and Black.
2.b. Order the layers so white is the bottom layer, and the layers get progressively darker until you get to the top layer of black.
3. add a layer mask to each layer
4. Open your original gray scale image
5. Open the levels dialog and set the end points to 0 and 64 and click OK
6. convert the resulting image to the halftone pattern of your choice
7. invert the colors of the resulting halftone
8. copy and paste this half tone into the layer mask of the other images black layer.
9. Repeat steps 4 through 8, but this time use a levels range of 64 to 128 and paste the inverted halftone into the layer below the previous. Continue repeating steps 4 through 8, each time incrementing the end points in the levels dialog by 64 and pasting the inverted halftone into the next lower layer.
10. You should now have a 4 color halftone that more accurately represent you original image.

Inspired by Enigma's song with the same name, hope you like it as much as I enjoyed working on it. Thanks. (o;

Song Lyrics.

"In every colour there's the light.
In every stone sleeps a crystal.
Remember the Shaman, when he used to say:
"Man is the dream of the dolphin". "

Oh this just makes me sad ...

Really liked the original. To me, the cutsie-fied characters just suck the soul right out of this piece. Such a shame ...

If this was on a darker colored t-shirt, I'd be all over it.
