This derby may as well be "wide open derby", not text only. Pretend you were born that year, and if not, create an account that was.

But there's a tiny problem with that. If someone lies about their age, and ends up winning, that person has to fill all the legal stuff Woot sends an artist for the payment process, and you can't lie about your age on those papers.

But, there was 3 Mile Island, which was what inspired my 3-eyed squirrel ^_^.

no way, we actually got to enjoy the 80's because we were old enough by then. kids born in '85 don't even remember the 80's. 1979 is where it's at.

thoughts: Pink Floyd released The Wall, Trivial Pursuit came out, Sony introduced the Walkman for the first time, and Superman, Alien, Amityville Horror and the Muppet Movie all came out in theaters that year! and that's just stuff from one list.

True to that, but a certain commercial / homage to the novel did air that year.

But you're right , it's a fun year (look at the movies!) I think I'm going with the lopsided L.A. Olympics (thank you Soviet boycott)

DC Implosion - over a dozen book s canceled mid series perhaps a Rapture scene with just empty costumes. Fine line between parody and IP here.

Remember the McDonald promotion that summer? You got a ticket with an event...if the US got a gold=BigMac, silver=fries, bronze=drink...and the same ticket could win multiple prizes if the US won multiple medals. That's the summer I got sick of McDonald's...permanently.

No I don't. I was 3 months old. But I do remember the Simpsons' Krusty Burger parody of that.

I second this. And having been born in the 1970s means you remember more of the 80s, which is far superior to having been born in them.

1960 in music. Jimi Hendrix played his first gig, Johnny Cash plays his first concert behind bars.
Chuck Berry releases 'Bye Bye Johnny' and Elvis sings 'Are You Lonesome Tonight'. Neil Sedaka's 'Calendar Girl', Brian Hyland's 'Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini' and Rolf Harris ties his kangaroo down, sport.

Yes, I'm a 60's child.

In the form W-9 you have to provide your SS# which pretty much tells them when you were born.

Beside, we'll know if somebody lies, I'm pretty sure one of the young lads here will try to reference 1979's Star Wars: A New Hope, but they'll probably add Jar Jar Binks to the design.

NO KIDS, Jar Jar was NOT on the good movies!

Right there with you. Anyone who wants to mashup Tron and Blade Runner will get my vote. FOR REAL.

But that's not all!

AT&T is forced to break up into 22 divisions!
DeLorean enteres receivership!
Syzygy!
World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee! Possibly with Wigspheres!
Cal Ripken Jr.'s Major League Baseball career begins!
EMOTICONS ARE INVENTED!
Commodore 64 is released at some point!

how does it do that? as far as i know, birth year isn't in the number.

from wikipedia:

"The Area Number, the first three digits, is assigned by the geographical region.

"The middle two digits are the Group Number. The Group Numbers range from 01 to 99. However, they are not assigned in consecutive order.

"The last four digits are Serial Numbers. They represent a straight numerical sequence of digits from 0001-9999 within the group."

this sounds like the ssns are assigned by where and when you apply for the number, not when you are borned ... ?
