I love the one that's pawing at the boat, so cute! And very nice background/environment, I always find that to be so hard...

Re: All Sails Ahead!

I think it's interesting in that--possibly--the stronger a design is, the stronger the response!! (e.g: boring.. hate it.. love it, etc.).

My designs never get hate-mail/comments. Read: they're too boring or lower quality, blah blah.

Having said all that, I agree with Bass in that if the sails were translucent, or 'lighter', maybe the color of the setting sun, you'd have a better balance around Capt. Jack up on the stern, or catshead. Nice skull, btw.

Awesome, I think it's wearable.

I think people would have to get very close to see the numbers on the shirt.

Re: The PiRAT

I think this is a good take on the pi-rat. I actually really like that the 3.14 for the ear is bigger, it gives you a more obvious starting point and likely makes the joke more quickly apparent.

Digital clocks doesn't have the 'hands'. The hands represents the minutes and hours. Since he's a digital clock, he showed it to the 'normal' clock that he can do it 'No Hands'!

Hope you get it!

And yes, I am in for 3 if this one makes it. Just wish it was offset or on the sleeve instead. Front and center is a little overdone.

jsee1218 wrote:And there's something wrong with a pirate on a pirate ship for a pirate themed derby? Can you expand on what you think the designer could do to help his concepts and composition? Some detail would be nice.
From what I gather from your post, all you're telling the designer is essentially "the way you interpreted the derby theme is boring". What would you have the designer do differently? This is the constructive criticism I was talking about that your post lacks.

I'm saying that the artist typically justs illustrates the theme on a base level, and that is what makes it boring to me. While technically very proficent, I personally find most of this artist's work that he submits here devoid of an kind of style or trademark.
In mention his composition because I can't really recall a design of his that looks like it was anything more than an illustration put on a shirt.

This is totally just my personal opinion, and I apologize if I didn't get my point across before. My recomendation for the artist is to possibly try experimenting with difrent styles, and thinking more outside of the box with his compositions. I believe if he could pair up some more creativity with his technically skill, I'd find myself liking his work a lot more.

I did this while back just for fun and I think aesthetically is very different although it's the same concept...And people obviously don't like this one so no worries!;)

Re: Incompetent Fools (No Text)

pretty!

reminds me of an old belgian comic ("De geverniste zeerovers" from the "Suske & Wiske" series) in which a magical varnish brings objects to life. first is a chair, which attacks the protagonists (who are making a journey by ship).
the varnish gets spilled over a set of tin soldiers and a model of a pirate ship, so the protagonists end up at a piratey island, fighting wooden pirates.
