This isn't a critique on this particular design, but conflicting light sources in a drawing that contains a single figure, aren't a good thing. Even cartoons have to follow some very basic rules.

Yup. Rainn Wilson has been my t-shirt model at Threadless for quite some time now, but I have been using him for everything lately. He does the job well
Re: Bread 'n Butter Pirate
BWAHAHA!!! This is great!
Re: Pirate (space)ship
What a gorgeous design!
Re: Arrrrrrctopus!
Well done Chumpmagic! And love the colors too.
dreadwood wrote:I like it (: But would this be considered pop-culture?
I hope not!
Re: First Day With the Hook
Lol'ed so hard with this one.
Re: No Escape
Catopus! This is awesome Bass, nice job!
Re: From Sea to Sky
I adore this shirt! It's adorably whimsical! Well done!
Re: Aye!
To me, this very obviously would be considered a parody of pop culture. How is this in the fog when other completely original submissions aren't?
walmazan wrote:I hope not!
I'd hate to think that the hours and hours you spent on this were wasted
Pretty sure this will be rejected for Pop Culture. If a Facebook riff isn't Pop Culture, then the rules mean nothing. Might as well have a ninja, too.
Re: Pirate Radio
This makes me smile. Great colors.
WOW!!!! O_O
Fun fact: one of the language options in Facebook is English (Pirate). The "Like" command becomes "Arr, this be pleasin' to me eye." So maybe "Arr" would be a better choice. <- uses Facebook in English (Pirate). Arr!
Re: [url=http://shirt.woot.com/Derby/Entry.aspx?id=60947]Nothing at
Took me a minute to get the joke. Maybe add some "boozer bubbles" to the pirate? Otherwise, clever.
Re: Arrrr!
Be still my heARRrrrrt! +1 for simplicity +1 for execution; The placement of the eyepatch rolled into a brilliant type design, I just love!!! +5 for surprising me; I would never have guessed that this was designed by you. I'm so used to your trademark style and love that you chose to switch it up this week. GMV!
Re: Some Translation Required
Arr, this fills me sails, but might it be too textual for that scurvy dog Rejectionator?
sittle wrote:Do you spend all night ignoring the lighting source in an illustration or does it just come together in 5 minutes...?
Seems a little harsh? I don't see anything wrong with the lighting. I'm actually really digging this entry. I love how you always have some kind of background to bring out the picture. I'm also always amazed at your halftone usage, you can't even tell they are there. Whenever I try to use them they stick out pretty nastily.
Re: Irrational Pirate
I just gotta know how you manage to grab that number one slot so often... I've tried beating you (not this week) and have never gotten close.
There's something very appealing about a simple, neat design. Nice work!

Arrr, This be pleasin' to me eye. Ditto (:
Great work!
This is gonna make it!! Great job Omar!:D
Re: X marks the spot
Perfect use of the shirt color, too! Love it!
Completely agree
I thought on the same concept but feared a rejection.
Thanks so much for the comments everyone! I've sat on this idea for a long, long while now. Im really glad to have a derby that it finally fits into ok. ^_^ I've been practicing a bit more with shading thanks to a few helpful artists here. Im usually super scared of halftones, but Im trying to face the monster that they are and best them. I sure appreciate the positive feedback! :D
Re: Pimped Out Pirate Pet
i agree with the color choice comment above. i think it would look better on a tan-ish colored shirt, something that makes you think "sand". love the idea, though.
I'm confused on the No Text rules, can someone please explain whats allowed.
Re: Hungry Beaver
Wasn't me... Nice one!
Love the color choices Bass! (how many "Not another mouse design!" comments will you get?)
Re: Scurvy Dog
i love that my kids could wear this shirt. +1
Great shirt! But yeah maybe make it a wooden vintage sign with that text on it or something.
Re: Here There Be Monster
he he he. dooomcat. I love you.
Re: How to Drive a Pirate Mad
Arr! The Stereogram! The Magic Eye of doom! (it really works).
ALL THE WHIMSY ALL OF IT
I love pirates and my first name begins with an R. so it's a win-win.
Re: No Quarter Given
It really makes a statement. Good one!
Re: A Crabby Pirate
This pirate's a bit crabby, he doesn't want anyone to touch his treasures! I had fun trying to make as many colors as I could with just the 6.
